Any of you 737 operators have explicit instructions in your manual NOT to use the nosewheel taxi light for take-off and landing?

Yes....and no.

If you were A/F then you'd never use it for TO/LDG because the book doesn't tell you specifically to do that.

If you were Navy... you might use it because the book doesn't specifically tell you you can't use it for TO/LDG.

If you were/are civilian you'd remember not to turn on your strobes when taking the active with jets behind you. :-)

Where were you a civilian at?

Some airlines used to specify that the 737 taxi light ONLY be used for taxi because since it was on the bottom half of the nosewheel strut it was subjected to more vibration on take-offs and landings and thus more prone to the filament breaking (more prone to do when hot) yet I see a few guys using it on take-off and landing.....including at times cost conscious SWA occasionaly. Was just curious.

Now, that's funny. I was literally screamed at in OAK (by another aircraft) when I threw my strobes and wing on taking the rwy at night. Poor form on my part, idiot in the other jet.

Won't go off automatically when the gear is retracted. Forget the switch, the light stays on.
