JetBlue Flight Grounded Twice By Mechanical Problems

By MARI ROBYN JONES The Tampa Tribune
Published: Apr 25, 2007

TAMPA - What should have been a three-hour trip to Boston from Tampa turned into an all-afternoon and evening saga for passengers of a JetBlue flight.

Flight 1242, with about 100 passengers, returned to Tampa International Airport twice Tuesday because of mechanical problems, a JetBlue spokeswoman said. The problems could have been with a seal on a door, she said.
The first flight left Tampa at 2:55 p.m. and returned to the gate at 4:30 p.m., spokeswoman Alison Eshelman said. The flight was supposed to arrive in Boston at 5:50 p.m.
The passengers waited in the airport for the plane to be fixed and were given food by the crew.
"To get the same people back on the same plane, that's just unforgivable," said one of the passengers, Seamus Palmer.
The jet took off on a second flight at 7 p.m. It returned to the gate at 8:30 p.m., Eshelman said.
Passengers had the option of taking another flight late Tuesday, this time on a different plane. Eshelman said 86 passengers took the offer.
"Hopefully, this third time will be a charm," said Gary Steiner, 28, who was supposed to be in New England for his grandfather's wake today.
Other passengers had the choice of rebooking the flight or getting a refund. All passengers received vouchers for a round trip.
The plane that caused the mess isn't being put back into JetBlue's fleet right away, Eshelman said. It's going to be looked at by the maintenance staff.

Is it true the nickname for the EMB 190 is "The 180"?

Sorry guys, just havin' some fun...... ;)

Really Catfish? Just having some fun?

Just wonder why it took an hour and a half each time to return to the gate - there must be more to this story - anybody have any insight ?

And I guess Airtran never had any mechanicals or cancelled any flights. Let's see, the crew fed the passengers, they were allowed rebooking rights or got a refund and all of them received vouchers for a round trip. Sounds to me like we probably went as far as we could with the situation; can you say that of your airline??? How about this story: Just havin' some fun....

Problems Ground AirTran Plane

Aircraft Filled With Smoke, Odor Before Landing

ATLANTA -- An AirTran Airways flight that left Atlanta Friday and was en route to Minneapolis/St. Paul was evacuated after it returned twice to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport for maintenance problems.

No injuries have been reported after Flight 852, a Boeing 717 that was carrying 116 passengers and five crewmembers, landed safely at the Atlanta airport although officials said the aircraft was filled with a strong odor and a smoky haze.
Tad Hutchenson, a spokesman for the carrier, said the plane originally left the airport at 2:05 p.m. before a trouble light in the cockpit indicated a problem with one of the airline's thrust reverser. The pilot returned to the airport at 2:18 p.m., Hutchenson said.
After the same plane left the airport at 3:21 p.m., the aircraft's left generator failed, sending smoke and an odor into the cabin. The plane returned to the airport and the passengers were evacuated using slides on the airplane.
Airport officials shut down one of the runways at the airport, one of the busiest in the world, during the incident.

Chuck... oh, I mean Catfish... good to see you are still a Doooooosh (spelling changed to the phonetic to get around auto editing) leaving the navy didn't change you a bit.

Lighten up thin skins. Just because you guys get the press this week doesn't mean we won't get it next.

Besides, I just enjoyed how the media makes it a big deal and they can always find a passenger who points out how "unforgiveable" it is to use the same plane. Maybe we should scrap them when they break........

'Fish has been pretty balanced on these boards...I wouldn't call him a JB antagonist. Like me--he had a choice to make a few years back and likes to peek at JB to see the "what if I had...?" stuff.

BTW fish...looks like you picked right based on upgrades. Are you diggin' the job?

As for scrapping planes when they break...I thought the AF did that for years with the F-16! (...ducking and waiting for the Viper mafia to roll in....)

Haaa. Now I was gonna post something about how uninspiring he was as a skipper of mine, but I thought that would be a purse slap instead of "just having fun".

Maybe he shaved that TED moustache by now...

He's right, it's all in good fun. What goes around comes around.

REZ -- you are goldang right it's too early to look at the standings. Pujols has yet to get started. The Yanks need to stop playing with double A pitchers. The Brewers are in first place? WTF?

Probably burning off 7000+ lbs of gas to not have an overweight landing. That would be my guess. I probably wouldn't land overweight for a leaky door seal either.

'Tis true. I'll let you know at age 65 (or 60? Standby for thread hijack....) if the call was correct.

Albie, I am still diggin the job, but my head is ready to explode. I'm right in the middle of 737 Upgrade training.
