I believe training pay is reserve guarantee which is 76 hrs per month and its in SEA. I pretty sure you have to find your own lodging if you are from out of town.
Upgrade is:
7 years to ANC
8 years to LAX
9 years to SEA
However, last I heard, some of our "great leaders" are telling new hires to expect upgrades within 5 years. Sounds like the usual B.S. that comes out of our senior management.
QOL pretty much sucks right now and management is trying to make it worse with their contract proposals. Arbitrated contract expires 5-1-07. I don't see a contract in the next 2 weeks, or in the next year for that matter!

So theorhetically, if the negotiations do go sour, how soon could they strike? I am applying for a job, but don't want to go if there is a serious chance that they could strike while on probation.

Yes, this may sound ludicrious to go there, but long term it would be better than retirement at my current job.

Yes, you are on your own for lodging during new hire training. My estimate is 9 to 10 years to upgrade at LAX, more at SEA. Don't forget the potential age 60 thing.

This should help...

Dude, you need to get hired first, then worry about it!

The contract isn't even amendable until May 1, and any strike would be after all the requirements of the RLA are exhausted, which could be years. If you got hired now you would be sure to be off probation. Every pilot group in negotiations has to be willing to strike or what's the point. So my question is then would you not go to any airline in negotiations because of that fear. And if not then you are eliminating several that are in the process, ie AA, SWA, are 2 others that jump to mind.

wow, does not seem like a good time to go to Alaska, where is training done?

All the training is done in SEA. Most if not all done at the Alaska training center. (I believe sims included) It is about a mile south of the SEATAC main terminal (basically abeam the approach end of the 34R).

If you meet the requirements for other airlines (the usual..FDX, UPS, SWA, Cathay, Emirates, CA, Etc...) and have not had the chance to interview there, then Alaska is a good stepping stone airline. If they offer you a job then take it but don't put up a mailbox and keep the search on for a career airline. It certainly wont hurt you and after year 2 you should be back to earning what you make at Skywest......And dont worry about being on probation when and if we go on strike...Probably late 2009 at the earliest

I started a new thread aobve this one and I'm looking for a current senority list. Looking for specific retirement numbers.

Anybody got one?

Don't worry, we will never be released for a strike. Ted Stevens will use his power at the whitehouse, and say we would hurt Alaska's economy too much (i.e. no 121 air service to the state capitol).

We won't get released until the next President is sworn in, which is less than two years from now. The odds of Ted Stevens still being alive at that point aren't very good, since he is already in his 80's.
It is pretty hard to say who will be in the White House then, but the odds of that person being as anti-labor as the current resident aren't very good either.

Pres Clinton really did a lot to help the pilots at NWA and AA in the mid 90's. It ain't just the republicans my friend. No politicians care about pilots especially the dems with their class warfare.
