Yesterday we were in ABE and I wanted to go to Subway to get some lunch. Being that we don't park on a jetway, I had to find someone to let me upstairs. The guy from our operations said that he has to escort me up there. I didn't think anything of it, I thought he would show me to the elevator and let me go, I was wrong. Apparently they are required to walk with me into the terminal "Sterile" area, wait in line while I get a sandwich, and then escort me back down to operations (where I am free to walk outside). I don't fault the employee for the rule, he was just following C.Y.A. What I don't understand is why can I be on the airplane, walk on the ramp, and walk around operations, but I can't go into the terminal? I have reached a new level of confusion and frustration with trying to keep up with every airports special policies and local procedures. Sometimes I feel as if the flight crews are perceived as the biggest threat.

I will cry baldy, everyday, for all of you triple seventy five drivers that think they are the epicenter of aviation standards and advancement.

You should have seen if you could have ditched the guy...you know, SPY vs. SPY style. As to your main point, yes, the TSA is a largely ineffective organization, but fabulous at inventing pointless "rules."

CVG, saw a DAL pilot go through the puffer, then get wanded when he never set the alarm off....It was part of the "random selection"
Pay no attention to the girl/guy behind the burka. Because we can't ask them to remove it for ID.......ok, not sure if they can't ask them to remove it or not, but I would be more suspect as to why someone is hiding thier face, over a aging old fart who flies for Delta.

So get this...PHX Sky Harbor airport authority gives out the plastic bags, in a 1 qt size. So I get to moth$&% Fu%#&%$# HPN, and the TSA says I can't use the bag. WHY you might ask? Because the bags that PHX gives, and are OK at EVERY airport I have been to, have a drawstring instead of a zipper. SOOOOOOO....HPN bad boy TSA lectures me and makes me leave the checkpoint to go get an HPN approved ZipLoc bag. Freaking yankees.

"But what if two people with 3 ozs. get together on the plane?"

tsa would probably arrest them on charges of suspicion and hating america

I saw a few TSA guys (one had a jacket with large "TSA INSPECTOR" written on the back) walking around the ramp in DCA today. They started pointing at our airplane then walked away. Guess we are safe now.

Also I went thru security in ALT this morrning, flew 3 legs then non-reved home. The agent didn't ask for a special ticket or say i had to reclear security, they just let me on the plane as normal after I checked in.

Do you think the average terrorist is as smart as the average TSA agent?

My money is on the terrorists. Isnt a university degree a pre-req of being in Al-Qaida?

I wouldnt trust those at the Thousand Standing Around to walk my dog around the block without gettin lost.

Jesus christ. Good ol' TSA, its just one great big federally sponsored work program. More and more I'm worried more about them then some terrorist. They have good intentions, but just cannot seem to muster any common sense. I'm sure their interview process (is there even one?) filters out those who have any. Just the other day, I pass through the metal detector and set it off. Come to find out it's my belt, which never sets it off. He wanted me to take it off, put it through the xray, and come through the detector again. I obliged. He then asked me why I just didn't take it off in the first place, to which I told him it never sets it off. Then I added "I fly the plane for crying out loud, are you afraid I'm going to strangle myself with the belt and let someone take over?" I know, stupid, but I couldn't help it. The look he gave me was priceless. It was like I was Osama himself. What a ********************ing joke.
