Outside of legacy (family ties) and military does SWA actually hire anyone with less than 2000+ PIC turbine. Friend of mine went to women in aviation and they told him not to get his type because he already had 2000+ PIC turbine. Thought this was interesting!

I got an interview with 1,700 Turbo-Prop PIC time. Got hired too. Never flown a Jet and didn't have the 737 type. Just a poor regional pilot.

AMR--You mean you'd actually leave the mother ship for SWA? ;)

Can't imagine why you'd give up 'red trips', that wonderful reserve system and C&R for the SWA way of life.

Good luck! TC

Back in 2003/04 I would have jumped ship. My upgrade time at LUV was better than at AA at the time. With all the hiring they have done, I'm probably better off sitting tight.

Besides, I wouldn't want to miss out on the big pay raise Raalph is going to get us, right?

maybe they were pissed cus your friend "him" was at a WIA function.

I usually tell people if Southwest is your goal, go get the type. If your not a Southwest kool aid drinker and you just want a way out of the regionals, don't get the type.

good advice...I had an interview with 1350 PIC and about 5000 TT with the type...and it worked. First thing is have you applied? that's where it starts...then comes the type argument.

Besides, with all the TWA pilots behind you, you're safe, right?

Yeah, I'm in there system waiting for call number 2. I have the type and I'm definatly drunk on the Southwest Kool Aid. They say second times a charm, I hope so!

My year is coming up. Any guesses as to how long from re-applying to getting a second call these days?

As soon as the People Department sees that you have changed your avatar you should get a call. They really do actively read these forums.

Yeeah, but mostht importantly...did your buddy meet a lot of ladiesth at the women in aviation conferencthe? Ole Leon will justht have to make it out for that conferenceth next year...along with a sthtaunch supply of courvossier of coursthe!

12000TT, 4000+PIC Turb, 737 Type, 700 PIC 737, two years - no call.

If you think that is bad you should see the possible replacements.

I have 2 friends that got hired with less than 1500 PIC, but both had the type.

Of all my buddies from my previous regional job that have been hired recently without the type, most have had 3000+ PIC (1 had 1800ish, but he was a check airman)

Best of luck!!

Is it possible to get on without any internal recommendations or did all you have internal recs?

It's absolutely possible. There was a guy in my class with zero internal recs.

The way it was explained to me, the internal recs come into play during the DB. If you're right on the fence between a yes or a no, a strong rec from a SWA pilot may make a difference.

While they're not a no go item by any means, I'd certainly like to have a few if it were possible.

Anybody go to any open houses? I signed up for the FTI open house April 20th. I have 6000+TT 1700TPIC. No LOR's, and yes I have applied online.

Man, I need to start hanging at these conferences. I just flew as a passenger on a Mesa jet with a smokin' hot petite brunette.

Yeah. "They" don't like it when dudes turn out at WIA events. I myself went as a member of WIA just to see if discrimination exists in the airline industry.

Yes. If you are a white male, you are screwed. Ask Nacey Stutke, Ex UAL recruiter. Quotas were/are alive and well. I love America.

Of course, now... most jobs suck so... whatever.

In a nutshell... the convention blew for me :) but the after party was the bomb!

I believe that Nancy Stuke passed away from cancer a few years ago, so nobody can ask her anything.

Seems the overwhelming majority of new hires at any airline are white males...how does that happen?

The majority of licensed pilots in America are white males. I never wondered why the overwhelming majority of people in Japan are Asian.
