They did NOT furlough out of seniority. They FIRED probationary pilots in order to circumvent furloughs in seniority order. They fired senior Saab guys and retained junior 145 guys in order to save training costs.

NEVER forget this and NEVER EVER refer to it as a furlough.

Sorry to say I dont think the union will strike even if the company does decide to upgrade out of seniority order. These days I dont see anyone going on strike no one has the balls to do it. Yea comair might have done it in the day but now they are paying for it as Delta peddles them off (mainline doesnt give a siht about regionals only if there is a flowback agreement if they have to furlough). Lets face it if all the pilots at republic holdings went on strike, the company would shut down and they would be out of a job and starting all over. I understand why people are pissed about it,, it is b.s. and I would be blowing my top. I think it would be great for the industry if they had to strike b/c of management being retarded but also sad b/c the doors would shut and those guys would be looking for a new job. There is no way that cal, frontier, delta or the other five airlines they fly for would sit there and wait for them to figure it out. Those airlines probably all ready have something in the contract that states if republic strikes they can cancel the contract. I feel bad for those guys over there b/c bedford makes the organization look like crap,,canceling b/c of no crews,, they got suspended off of the cal msp to iah, b/c it is weight restricted to like 38 or 40. That guy will just make his money and bury the company he doesnt care.

Striking is never a bad option...people who say that are the weak links that ruin the unity and effectiveness of the strike. A strike is a legally protected option that must be utilized when common sense and legal muscle fail. Our management does not wish to close up shop, and our mainline partners do not want a service disruption. Rest assured, any imminent strike threat will cause our mainline partners to put pressure on RAH management to get things figured out quickly. And, seeing how there are numerous options available to the company that do not involve bypass (such as simulators in other countries, voluntary vacation sell-backs, permanent overtime pay overrides, and asking our major partners for a small reduction in flying for a short period while correct pilot training takes place), our management does not have a legal leg to stand on in preventing a strike or following through with the seniority bypass for any extended period of time (they can do it until a court says no, which will likely take a couple of months, and then the undoing of the bypass will be even more costly).

The sky is not falling here... This is all just management trying to paint a grim picture leading up to the opening of contract negotiations. Bedford is a sly one, but his one brain is not going to be able to outwit a collective 1800 brains. Someone will always be able to sniff out the lie and educate the rest of us... and this lie smelled like sheeeet from a mile away.

Number two was to protect CAL in the event another COMAIR incident occured. They did not want to end up like DAL did during CMR's strike. .

If that was the case, they would have brought in CHQ before Expressjet had settled their new contract.

Yea Ash, I am the goober ,, ask msp ops tonight when you get there. For two months starting in april chq is off, iah-msp flights.

I really don't even care, I wasn't attacking your pilot group I have a lot of friends there,, just making some statements about management.

Skyway is ALPA. How can an airline get any smaller than that?

CHQ guys can eloborate more than I could but as I understand it, this was years ago and ALPA was too high and mighty to add small CHQ so they to Teamsters. I also heard that when CC Air was being bought out they asked CHQ how senority list would be intergrated, they were told since CC Air was ALPA they would be stapled. They ended up being bought by Mesa. Any CHQ guy know this to be true?

i don't know why all you guys have yer panties in a knot over MSP....it's a long ass flight for a RJ. I don't give a crap if you have 6 fuel tanks....it's a long flight. Who in their right mind wants to sit in that seat for more than 2 hours is beyond me. RJ's should not be flying across the country. PERIOD. Put a 737 on the route. Keep the RJ's on the short routes and you won't have weight restrictions.

This was back before "the regionals" became "the regionals." Back when CHQ was a 100 pilot turboprop operator, ALPA didn't want anything to do with 'em, especially as they were a stand-alone entity, (not a wholly-owned commuter.) The ComAirs, Eagles, Piedmonts, and Skyways of the world sorta fell into ALPA based upon being "associated with" the mainline pilot group. (Remember flow-thru's?) I suspect that back then, if ALPA had a clue how big the regionals would become, they'd have been all over CHQ as well. (I have no explanation however for why Horizon is Teamsters while AS is ALPA. Anybody know the answer to that one?)
