I am about 2 months away from 1000 TPIC and now I am thinking about getting some jet time. I had Comair and ASA in mind. Any suggestions?

Here is my suggestion....

Get AT LEAST 1500 TPIC then look at places like World, Evergreen, USA 3000, Allegiant, etc. I wouldn't go to a regional to get jet time, I would get jet time in a bigger airplane if you are looking to eventually move on. If you have 2500TT, then maybe a regional is the only option...do you have any good connections anywhere?

Amf....., what base? Where do you want to live/be based. USA 3000 is not the best of jobs, seasonal at best. PM me, I'll give you straight info.

Going to USA 3000 accomplished what I was looking for. Maybe it's changed since I left?

Don't punch out on the PIC time just yet. You'll need alot more to be competitive. If you really jonesing for some SIC jet time go to one of the cargo airlines and get some heavy international time.

In the meantime, if places like Southwest or Fedex are what you are aiming for, make as many connections at those places as you can. That's what will ultimately get you there.

I was also looking into places like Gemini, Centurion, and Amerijet (I live in Miami). But it seems like you need lots of total time to get in. I know getting more TPIC would be good but I am just ready to move on. You can only fly the Caribbean in a turboprop for so long! Its getting old real quick. I am just looking for better QOL and jet time. I can be based anywhere on the east coast it does not matter to me.

If you go to Comair, the odds are very good that you'll be based in JFK. We do have some new hires holding CVG and GSO but I wouldn't plan on it for now. Pay here is average now but we have the best Delta pass benefits of all the Delta Connection carriers. If you're planning to commute that might help. If you decide to apply for Comair, definitely wait until you have a decent amount over 1000PIC, as you would probably be asked to come and interview fairly quickly, with class following shortly after that.

Turbine PIC is Turbine PIC.. who cares about jet time..... apply at Fedex UPS Southwest.. DO NOT APPLY TO ASA COMAIR EAGLE XJET ETC.... VERY UNSTABLE CONSTANTLY UNDERCUTTING EACHOTHER 6 YEAR UPGRADES.

They're not all the same.. Gemini is still able to get very qualified pilots, so trying to get a job without Jet PIC now is not easy.. In my new hire class alone, all but one guy had a good bit of Jet PIC, and there was even a former Amerijet guy.. the one guy without it, had Turboprop PIC and lots of Africa experience..

I think you'll find Centurion and Amerijet are not as selective..

Hi!

I thought Centurion was a German co.? Who are they, and what do they do?

Horizon is the best regional, but it's West coast. I think Air WI is the best in the east.

If you don't have enough time for the big freighters, you could go smaller, like us, little Kalitta, Cherry or Ameristar (I wouldn't recc. Grand Air/Tri Coastal.).

We R having a class on Apr 16 and haven't finalized it yet.

I second that one 100%.

Hi!

The initial cadre that went over to Centurion came from Ex-Gemini guys, but they went there with lots of big promises and no delivery.. They are now a DC10 operation much like our DC10 operation at Gemini, except they pay a lot less and they have no effective union contract.

Yes I second that too, I would try and get atleast 2000hrs of PIC time. I myself am working on getting a UPS deal together. And unless your military they want 2000hrs PIC to be competitive.

Stay where you are, keep building your PIC time and Apply to the majors! Jet time is nice, but we have people leaving our company left and right with only TurboProp PIC... If you leave at 1000hrs of PIC your selling yourself short.

Good Luck
