Delta to cede almost half its gates at Boston's Logan Airport

Delta Air Lines Inc., the largest U.S. carrier in bankruptcy, will give up nearly half the gates it controls at Boston's Logan International Airport under a 10- year lease it completed with the Massachusetts Port Authority.
The Atlanta-based carrier had formerly controlled all 22 gates at Logan's Terminal A, which opened two years ago. The authority, which sold about $500 million in bonds backed by Delta to pay for the new terminal, can now lease nine of those gates to other carriers. The bonds are insured by triple-A rated Ambac Financial Group Inc.
"This was a necessary step in Delta's transformation, allowing us to achieve our restructuring goals while maintaining our commitment to the community and customers as Boston's largest carrier," said Doug Blissit, Delta's vice president of corporate real estate, in a joint statement with the state authority.
Delta plans to emerge from Chapter 11 protection this year after cutting annual costs by $4 billion, shrinking its fleet and adding more than 50 international routes. The third-largest U.S. airline fended off a hostile takeover bid from Tempe, Arizona-based US Airways Group Inc. in January.
The deal, signed March 1, "strikes a successful balance," said Thomas Kinton, the executive director of the Massachusetts Port Authority, in Advertisement

Take it to the bank with you:

Southwest's newest city BOS.

No 15 minute turns in BOS ....

Neither does PHL...

But that's where the money is and I wouldn't underestimate them!!
They are the closest thing the passenger airline industry has to a well managed and profitable company. How unique!

Now if they would just do something about the people who line up an hour before a flight and sit on the floor in the middle of the concourse!

All those RJ's in their new "stand-alone" brilliant business plan don't take up nearly as much gate space I guess:laugh:

While this has absolutly nothing to do with losing gates in Boston, I will bite. Again 737, companies in BK very often have the best service because frankly speaking, service is all you have.

Wow, that was very profound....... The creditors disagree I bet. Parker sure must have wanted our service then..... you guys must have NONE, which the survey shows..

Again General, what does this have to do with you losing gates in Bos??? When CAL was in BK I remember that they had the best service in the industry.

I am happy that your service is so good now and maybe it will get better, God knows it should!!! Now let's get back to the real conversation here and leave the off topic out of this. GATE LOSS IN BOS.

Now get back to your "handy man business."
Stephen (bfd1)is in much need of a "quick fix." He spends lots of time hiding in NCAA college rooms looking for pleasure and could use a "man" like you!

So we are losing gates in BOS? Big deal. Are we reducing the # of flights in BOS. We have too many empty gates in BOS and it makes sense to share the expense with other carriers. I see this as a good thing

It is a big deal!!!! It's big in the fact that we as major airline pilots do all we can to give NOTHING back. This is our profession and I fully understand the companies financial position and carrying more gates then you need. It may seem good now but what about the future??

No degree Steve:
Hanging out in an NCAA mens' locker room doesn't exactly qualify you for a degree. However it will get you 10-20!
Thanks for continuing to prove my point!:D

Keep working on that seniority integration...

Since I feel bad for you. You know the whole degree in the mail thing. I'd be happy to let you borrow my lettermans ring for a week or two. Hopefully that would make you feel better. However I'll do this on one condition. That being that you don't actually wear it. Wouldn't want you to try and have people believe you actually attended a real university. CHA CHING!!

Since you continue to ASSume I'm someone named Bill, it is quite obvious this conversation is above your intellectual level and you're an even bigger moron than I origionally thought. But I've learned to expect that from someone like you, hanging out in mens' college locker rooms! I've learned in life that people like you who brag about their education are the ones who don't have one!;)
Your GED is probably the best you could do on an education level! Keep up working on that 2 year degree at your local community college, it will help you in your next battle of wits!

Hi degree mill Bill. No ASSumption here. Just fact. Wouldn't you say Bill? Or did you change your name? Maybe you changed it just on here? Never bragged about my education. Just countering yours since you are so keen on bashing those who did not attend an institution of higher learning. The irony of your bashing and the fact you got your degree thru the mail is typical of your responses. And once again allow me to explain. 2 year community colleges don't offer letterman rings. I've explained it but it appears once again your degree mill didn't give you the proper education in the art of understanding. They certainly didn't offer you much in the way of spelling. Again my offer is still open if you would like to borrow my ring. However if you take me up on it I've also have a second requirement. That being you don't wear it on a chain around your neck. I know that's what you want to do but come on. Take care. CHA CHING!!!
