I want to know if some of you guys commute from the west coast to the east coast since there are more regional out there.
How is it? Can you share your experience
Asking cause i live in San Francisco.
Thanks

Don't do it. Either move out east or hold out for a job near home.

Commuting cross-country will kill most of what little time off you'll get. Plus, if you end up on reserve, you'll end up paying for hotels or a crash pad out of your pocket.

Commuting from coast to coast is not so bad for the first couple of months, after that you want to blow your brains out with a shotgun.

It's definitely doable and a lot do it. You just have to be prepared that it will eat into your off days and you might have to pay for a crash pad. Cass also helps. My advice would be to live at your base during your reserve period and once you get some seniority go back to your place.

I commute about 4 1/2 hours to work. The hard part is that work is 2 time zones ahead of home for me so I end up leaving at 6AM and getting to work at 1230PM. I haven't got a hotel (except for training) in over a year and I can get showtimes after 2-3 PM very easily. It depends on who you work for and where you live but it is possible. I don't get screwed in hotel costs or crashpad costs and I don't ever loose days-off to commuting but I do spend anywhere from 5-8 extra hours on day one and day four getting in and getting out... For me it's worth it but barley - I keep holding out for a West Coast base that is commutable from where I live, that hope is the only thing sustaining my will to live, however.

How is it?

Its awesome!

I used to do a really long commute, but I had all that I could stand and moved. I would recommend applying to Skywest or XJet if you want to have any sort of QOL living in CA.

Horizon isn't a tough commute on the West coast either with bases in PDX and SEA. I'd avoid communting all together, but if you're going to the shorter and more frequent the flights the better

Well if your in little rock there is LUV to KLIT.

Yo, I think it could be done. The thing is that you need a place or crash pad somewhere centrally located in an easily commutable city whose flight schedules fit your destinations logically. Now thats if you are still interested in commuting after getting sick of it for the first few months. Trust me, its a bltch and not even worth it really. Could you just hold out for what best suites your needs? Otherwise, if not a crash pad, than get familiar with the best rate hotels based on your pilot discount in the area where you will be transferring from in case you get stuck. Ideally it would be at most a two leg commute. Now depending on the city, it may be cheaper to do the crash pad thing. Research..
