I've talked to three management types in the airline industry and asked them this question. All three of them don't give Lynx much of a chance...one gives them 18 months to 2 years.

The general consensus is that...

-Southwest is KILLING Frontier.
-United is hurting Frontier
-United will put a plane or two on top of every Q400 flight of Lynx's and Lynx won't get the load factor they need.

Does anyone out there think Lynx is a good idea (other than F9 management, of course)?

I ask you...how long will Lynx survive?

If they weren't relying on RAH to do the flying, they'd probably be ok. But, as it is, 18 months sounds like an understatement.

The Q400 is a very economical aircraft with impressive performance... the aircraft is perfect for Aspen and other mountain destinations... Frontier is using forethought in my opinion, not to say anything about Frontier's performance, but I see Lynx doing quite well.

So what is the latest with Lynx? Have they completed all of there hiring? At least for the captains or just for check airmen thus far?

Lynx is a GREAT idea. How many United passengers will Frontier take away from United going into Aspen, Gunnison, Steamboat, etc?

Let's see, how many people will fly into DEN and then hop on a flight to ASE, when they could just hop on SkyWest out of LAX, SLC, or ORD and go non-stop? The Q-4 may be able to take in and out more passsengers, but when the weather there sucks it doesn't matter what aircraft your flying.

I believe you're implying that everyone lives in LAX, SLC or ORD. What about folks that live in the other 100+ metros? Oh, I know, they'll have to connect, huh?

With reliability in the 75% range with QX, and having just RFPed QX out of their flying. I think Lynx has a uphill battle with the Q400. It does have great economics, but QX has two aircraft sitting as operational spares to jump in at a moments notice. Will Lynx have 10% of its fleet sitting around waiting for the call? We would flag stop in BOI out of KSUN for fuel because of DA performance issues, I can only imagine what Aspen is like. If you put a little anti-ice/de-ice on the airframe another performance hit. Will Lynx purchase the increased ZFW, TO, and Landing weights to accommodated 78 people and bags? Allot of questions I hope they have allot of answers. Is Lynx still going to be operating by May?
