Huh oh- Airways might snag Northwest away from General Lee..........sorry Leebo........

That could happen I suppose.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Northwest is a better fit for the US Air system and it lines up the stars for DL and CAL to get together.

Seems like Parker has all of this (debt) money lined up and is determined to do another deal.

Where are the Gordon Bethune quotes? I figured he would have a comment. Maybe the fact he isn't talking says something.

DL and CAL will not get together. There is nothing either carrier has that either carrier wants. We are both strong in Europe, we are strong in Central and South America and DAL is building up their presence down there. EWR, JFK, CLE, CVG, IAH, ATL. The only thing CAL would be remotely interested in is SLC. Nope CAL and DAL will not happen.

You may be right , but don't forget that they ALMOST merged a few years ago. Have their route/fleet systems changed since then to the extent that it's no longer a good fit? I do see a couple of other problems with it -- too much presence in EWR/NYC, plus NWA's "golden share".

CAL was in a different position when that DAL deal almost happened. Our major European expansion and DAL's Central and South American expansion kinda of take away any chance. One interestiong thing though, aren't DAL's current 777 Rolls powered whereas the new 777-200LR's will be GE Powered and CAL's 777's are all GE powered. HMMMM.;)

Post #7 is one of the wittiest I've seen yet on flightinfo. Where'd you find it Noserider?

I bogarted it off our ALPA message boards where it was posted by someone who took it from the yahoo boards. I thought it would go well here to lighten things up a bit. Take care.

This is the General being out smarted and out analyzed by others in a thread he started....

"That could happen I suppose....."

Brilliant insight General.... you really brought something to the discussion...........

U.S. Air could still take part in airline-industry consolidation, according to analysts at Bear Stearns.

Bear Whooooo?

I don't get it. Parker fails to merge two airlines, gets rejected by another and is trying for more. How about taking care of the company he does have.

Us Airways isn't going to buy or merge with anyone right now. What bank would finance any deal with oil at $110/barrel amid the current credit crisis? I just don't see any lender signing up for that kind of risk. The only way to finance a merger IMHO would be through stock swap and Us Airways has a total market capitalization of less than $800 million right now. The only carrier you could purchase with a market cap like that would be something along the lines of mesa, if we were lucky. The scary reality is that Parker is going to have to manage US Airways out of this mess if we're going to survive.

"We don't think the M&A story is over," analyst David Strine wrote in a note to investors. "There are other, more willing players -- e.g. United (UAUA : ual corp-- that could also be a potential partner for [U.S. Airways]."

Thank gawd we got rid of Parker..... And Tilton seems to want to merge. So, have at it boys! (how would that work in the West? Hubs--SFO,LAX, PHX, LAS, DEN?? Yikes) Maybe Delta could buy up some of the hubs......TIC.

Bye Bye--General Lee

If the last few days have taught us anything, its that Bear Stearns should be the last one you turn to for investment advice. Doesnt look like theyre going to have a pot to pee in soon...
