Lynx (the Frontier Regional to be flying Q400's) is apparently going to pay their first year CA's (yes they are all first year CA's) $50 per hour.

"Reliable source" is F9 CA [better than the gas pumping line guy but not exactly the wall street journal]

So 76 seats at $50 for the CA means what for the FO.

Well that number is also posted on the Lynx pilot advertisements so I'd say it's pretty much confirmed.

It appears that they may be following Horizon's pay scale. Too bad they are not paying Island Air Rates ($68 hr. 1YR CA).

I also ready the $50. hr rate on an employment web site. Wonder if they pay for getting snowed in?

If Denver is your base....how would you get paid for getting snowed in?
P.S. Denver has more sunny days per year than San Diego....just ask my actual instrumrnt column.

Island's 1st year CA pay is $68? According to APC, $68 isn't seen until year 15 on DH8 (believe they don't have any 400's).

Where did you see the advertisement?

Rumor has it that Lynx management (frontier) is going to hire mostly Dash 8 Capt.s due to the fact that they only need differences training for Q-400 qualification. Thus, saving the company tons of money on street capt. training.

Horizons 1st year 400 pay for Capt. (which we have none of course) is 65.00 hr.

1st yr FO is 29 2nd yr 39.

50 an hour, while not unexpected, is a terrible number.

Anybody looking into this Lynx thing should be very careful. There dosen't seem to be any solid info on the whole pilot deal. Im based in Denver and have heard nothing but negative comments about Lynx from Frontier pilots on the employee shuttle. How quickly they parted ways with Horizon is a red flag to me as well. Also, if you are not interested in dealing with the growing pains of a start up airline this would be a nightmare. I have many buddies on the Q-400 at Horizon and they all say the airplane is an absolute maintenance queen. Anyway, Ill let some other souls jump into the water.....ill slide in when the temperature is right.

I'm wondering where they're going to find DH8 captains with significant time in type to work for $50/hr. I can see some of our (QX) Q400 FOs making the jump for that payrate but our most junior DH8 CAs earn $59/hr. The junior Piedmont/Island Air guys make around $50. Even the junior DH8 CA at Mesa makes $43/hr. Will hordes ditch their seniority to make $7/hr more at a startup?

Hmm. Actually, given that it's Mesa, that's a distinct possiblity.

I was thinking that same thing. I would imagine that guys with 4000+ TT are looking for something more than $50 an hour.

Will Lynx have any sort of flow-through to Frontier? If so, that might attract some pilots who see Lynx as an "in" to F9, despite the pay.

Doesn'y Mesa havea DHC-8 base in DEN? I think thats your answer right there. not sure how much would actuly be saved by hiring -100 pilots, but I'm sure they'll have no trouble filling the F/O ranks with that pay. I do find it hard to believe they could compeltely fill the CA ranks with guys that have PIC in type, though. $50 just isn't a ship jumping number unless you work @ mesa.

If I was still at mesa, I'd jump all over this...it couldn't possibly be any worse...

I don't think there will be any sorta flow through without there being ONE LIST and that is not going to happen, according to management.

Not only will there not be a flow through, but it will be virtually impossible to move from Lynx to mainline. There is no way Frontier is going to pay to train anyone twice. Especially in the beginning when they are paying to get Lynx up and running.

Why would anyone do this job for $50 an hour?

Why would anyone take a Q400 CA job for $50/hour? QX has 400 FOs making nearly $50/hour. Ridiculous.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who takes a $50/hour Q400 CA slot is waving their arms, jumping up and down, screaming: "I'm a whore! I don't understand the value of my services as the PIC of a 70+ seat aircraft."

Well, at least we agree on that much.

There are a bunch of guys at Whorizon who have been waiting yrs for upgrade and I believe they will jump if giving the chance, for PIC time.

Be that as it may, I stand by my assertion that that pay, for that size a/c, as PIC is too little, and indicates a lack of either planning or character on the part of the candidates who are considering it.

I'm a big fan of the QX pilot group, but I'd be really disappointed in any FO friend of mine who "jumped" at a crappy deal. Course they'd probably tell me take my disappointment and shove it up my poop hole.

Most of us at QX are here for the stability. I think very few, if any people will jump at a long shot like Lynx. If they do, then good, they're probably the same people who will vote for a pay cut.
