Really? You too? Hit me a shaved one, once.

But seriously, I hit a wild boar with a cessna. I may have run over a groundhog with a Dash 8... It was on takeoff so I couldn't go looking for the body.

I hit a rabbit taxiing for departure in a Bonanza, and almost hit a large tarantula that same day taxiing in to the ramp.

I would have hit Bambi once, thank goodness my aircraft had a Wildlife Detection System (WDS) installed:

"Too Low Deer"

The wierdest was a woodchuck. I've only seen two in my life and I ran over one:smash: .

We ran over a groundhog in a Turbo Commander. The plane had a camera door installed in the belly and only had about 8" clearance. The little bugger went down the left side less than a foot from the nosewheel.

No way we could have missed it. We reported it to the tower right away; the airplane following us on final said they saw something scurry off the side of the runway behind us. To this day I don't know how he was able to flatten himself enough for us to miss him.

I hit a fox once while landing at night in Traverse City, MI. Apparently it wasn't killed outright by the collision and managed to limp off into the woods before anyone could find it.

I hit a bat out over the Atlantic on one of those 30 mile finals into JFK in the CRJ. Still had part of the wing left in the nose gear when we got to the gate.

I hit a deer while landing in Sault Ste. Marie in a saab a few years back and completely destroyed the #1 engine. To this day it's the only deer I've ever bagged.

I'm still trying. Me and some buddies used to gang up on coyotes in west texas as a two ship and chase them until they couldn't run anymore if we saw one on a low level run to get a burger. Couple of months ago I saw a coyote lapping up a dead bird at an uncontrolled field I was entering the pattern to. Threw it into a steep bank and descent and kept the power in until lined up and got it firewalled with about 400' to go. Skimmed him about five feet off the ground right at redline without him having a clue and pulled up into a chandelle. Never saw the coyote again after he went under the cowl. I'm still looking to get a jackrabbit painted on the cowl.

Amost hit a gator in ocala in a cessna. It was sun bathing and did not see it until the last second.

I can't believe I nearly forgot this...

Almost hit two ostriches (yes, i said ostriches) in Lakeland, FL about 9 or 10 years ago. Not exaclty what you are expecting at 12 midnight in Florida.

I hit on a gate agent in Wisconsin, woodland yes,,but I could not find a small one!

I almost hit a gofer tortise with a student once. Good thing he had a rough landing and we bounced over it. It would have done some dmage

Well its not a woodland creature, but me and my buddy were playing the "you cant scare me" game in a 152 over a big lake in central FL and we came about a foot away from hitting a fish that was jumping out of the water. Would have been hard to explain fish guts in the cowl.

see my name

also, numerous birds and a turtle.

hit a bird on my very first flight..what are the odds of that?

dk

I love it, I don't see how anything bad could happen playing this game in general, much less while being close enough to the water that you almost hit a fish! A FISH!

On another note, the craziest thing I've hit was a tumbleweed in igm, az. I also almost hit our airport dog that found a hole in the fence and liked to chase the airplanes, but thankfully missed her and brought her back to the office. I have harvested a fair amount of geese in the dash (5 I believe, 3 in one shot), but birds are not very interesting.

a friend hit a big deer in upper Michigan about five years ago in the SAAB right at V1. Luckily they kept it on the ground. It Freaked up the nose and left engine was tore completely off its mounts. It stayed on the A/C by only the cowling and wires. Two blades were destroyed and the other two stuck in pos. pitch (unfeathered). UGLY!!!

Another friend (now at SWA) actually lost the entire Right engine on a Metro, but I can't remember if that was a deer.

I hit a pheasant once. Brought it home, plucked it, threw it in a pot and had it for dinner.

Delicious.

Creatures from the wild!!

I hit a Pigeon on short final @ STP in a C-310R... It went threw the left prop, the birds wing was in the prop hub, then the rest of it hit the left main landing gear! What a mess...

I also hit a Vulture in a PA-44 while @ ERAU on my multiengine check ride, on the take-off roll!
