We push around 9:30am and get ready to call for taxi and some chick in a B1900 calls ready to taxi (Colgan Air? flt 2751? Had a dark blue US Air top...Beech 1900D) and then they tell her to wait a minute at spot 1. She immediately calls back and starts to talk about her fuel situation and how she might have to go back to the gate for fuel......Ground was asking her if she was low fuel before she even started to taxi.....We all taxi out....there are like 30 CAL a/c all in line for 24L (waiting patiently I might add)......so she takes intersection W on 24L and calls ready and starts complaining about how she has to wait in line. The guy in the tower went off on her about how she could have saved time if she just stayed in line instead of trying to cut in front of everyone else....She continued to complain about min fuel and got her way and took off......good luck guys if you gotta fly with her....I don't think I have ever seen anything like that before.....Unbelievable!

If it was a purple-topped Beech, that'd be CommutAir.

my bad it was CommutAir....I knew it began with a C....Sorry to the Colgan group people.....

Still pretty amazing though...........

It's the controller's fault! If it had been one of us Spikey haired, iPod wearing, Backpack toting, SWM types, with our shiney jets ............... he would have ignored us, or just slammed us and put us back in line!
She shouldn't have left the gate if fuel was going to be a problem during taxi!!
Delta will hire her next year! She can be General Lee's F.O, and together they can promote the regional cause!! Or just bitch about other people!

Hey nice bike!......I don't think that I have ever heard anyone talk about minimum fuel on a taxi out of the gate!!!......(except for 20 series learjets:laugh: or waiting for take off after a long period of time but not on the taxi out!)

Probably true about the hiring thing......sad but true....

we would always have min fuel plus 110 lbs in the beech at air middy. not much when there's a line out there.

Every time I hear that Colgan call sign I think about the water. "Hey Cullagan Man" Is it just me?...... I thought so.

You have obviously never flown a 20 series Lear before...nor should you.

Um ....................... The thread was regarding a B1900, not a 20 series Lear (which I don't believe is used for 121 ops).

What does "121 ops" and being fuel critical upon start-up have to do with anything?

HHHHAAAA....

I don't think that general dou che has been at delta for 20 years yet, because thats how long the upgrades are going. LOL.... as for them hiring unqualifed women? I don't think they are going to be as bad as mother YO.....but we'll have to wait and see eeehh?

Maybe, if you're flying 121 ops, you might be heavily regulated - more regs, etc... than say, a 135 Lear driver.
Maybe, regardless of the aircraft, you shouldn't leave the gate in a B1900, if you are going to be pushing min fuel on the taxi!
Maybe, we live in the year 2006, going into 2007. The Lear 20 might have been the best thing since sliced bread in the 1980s or 70s (whenever it came out), but the thread pertained to a B1900 operated in 2006. Things have evolved a little bit since the Lear20 came on the scene.

If you fly a Lear20, you might love it - good for you! I don't, never have, probably never will. I prefer aircraft that can make it to the runway without having to declare min fuel.

Well, I've been in the 75 with our total fuel being 200-300 lbs above takeoff fuel. The captain (an of course qualified and god's gift to aviation MALE) and I knew we had to get going asap or we would have to go back and get more fuel or an amended release. You guys are just jumping on all this because the pilot was a female. If the pilot was a male, this thread wouldn't even have been written and you all are just jumping right on the bandwagon as usual. Of course, the obligatory "she'll be at Delta next year" is right in there too. You all need help.

.

Where have you been? A lot of companies don't give you squat for fuel anymore.

Wrong. We have fuel programs in effect. I was at another carrier before this, who had a fuel program in effect. Never had a min fuel situation force me back to the gate, despite many groundstops/delays.
If it's not her problem, then the carrier is at fault - they should've given her more fuel, or she should have known about the long delay/taxi and called for more fuel before pushing. Don't push, then cry to jump the line because you think you're a special case (regardless of sex).
By the way, if you don't think that the female thing played into this, then I think you're wrong and obviously the person that started this thread and witnessed it happening, thought so too.

Sure. You know damn well that if it was a guy doing this, the thread wouldn't even be here.

That's because a MAN would've put enough fuel on before he left the gate . . . or we ain't goin' nowheres, dammit!

Heh-heh!

Seriously, I have never had to gate return for fuel. If I don't have enough showing on the release to deal with the departure delay, then I'm putting more on. End of story.

PS., those old Lears didn't have th luxury of putting more on. Small tanks and they burned as much idling on the ground as they did at FL410. If they didn't get airborne and up to altitude, they weren't gonna reach the destination. Seldom applicable in the 121 environment unless you are landing weight limited or lack testicular fortitude.

That's why the PIC should add fuel before blocking out.

Would Dave Mustaine take the stage with only one additional pick on his mike stand because that's what the venue "gave" him? ;)

Would Dave Mustaine allow his tour bus to leave the stadium with "min beer" on board?

What Would Dave Do?

:D

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

I agree but we don't know the whole story. Not only that, but was she the PIC or just the new FO relaying what the capt. was telling her? Chances are, the other pilot was a guy. Why didn't HE, in all his wisdom, speak up? Like I said, if this was a dude, the thread wouldn't exist and you all know it.

Well, I've never declared an emergency....I guess that means I am good luck. :D

Seriously though, I returned to the gate once but it was after waiting over 2 hours for a storm that was "going to pass in just a few minutes" (according to dispatch), etc. etc.

male v. female....at least it's not mil v. civ. A nice breath of fresh air.....

Why didn't HE, in all his wisdom, speak up?

He probably did speak up, but the woman on board most likely shut him down by telling him that he was a horrible bed mate. Then she probably made a snide remark about his mother. :smash:

just breakin' your balls, or ovaries as the case may be...

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

That sounds about right from my Beech days. Problem was always that the aircraft could only carry 19 pax with about a 2200-2400 pound fuel load, that's basically only half tanks. Now this was BEFORE the CLT accident and the FAA mandated new weights for America's ever increasing waist line. Nowadays I have no idea how much fuel you can take with 19 pax onboard. But it's gotta be much less than half tanks. So yes, in the Beech you can leave the gate with "min fuel". I used to even taxi on one engine as much as I could, not an easy task without any kind of power steering to help you out. And yes I even had to go back to the gate once because we didn't have enough fuel to wait out the 30+ minute taxi time and still make release and carry a full passenger load with all their luggage.

No one should be playing Monday morning quarterback, unless you've actually been a quarterback.

But none of this excuses this pilot's actions, wish I would have been there to hear it go down. Still I've been in that situation before, and there's not a whole lot you can do.

Why is this in the "Majors" forum BTW??

Yeah . . . I thought that too, but then we wouldn't have anything to banter about, would we. . . . .

Ooops, I'm being summoned to dinner by the Head of Household . . . .Yes, Dear. . . . so long, y'all!
