Got the interview email this morning but I'm under a verbal agreement till June, didnt think I'd get called this quickly. Should I email/call and ask if I can defer the interview a few months, or interview now and defer the class date if i get hired? Would she be open to that?

After your interview, see if you can leave your current position early and remain in good standing. If yes, go to XJT. If no, turn down the class date. Never burn any bridges in this industry.

I understand that, my question was geared towards HR's thoughts on deferring a class date or interview. Best case senerio I think would be to interview, and if offered a class, defer the date for a few months. Thats kind of what I'm wondering.

I do not think any employer would hire you and then allow you to defer a training date. If I was in HR and we offered you a job but you couldn't show up for training for 6 more months, I would take away my job offer to you. I'm not in HR though, so it's anyone's guess. It looks like you're going to have to burn a bridge either at your current employer or XJT.....good luck. If you are only under a verbal agreement with your current employer, it would make my decision very easy......leave and move on.

I have 1250 total/ 135 Multi, and my profile says I am disqualified on the ExpressJet site.....anybody know why I would be disqualified from applying w/ my time??

^^^^Re-apply, our HR is really screwy. To the OP, the day I interviewed one person asked if they could defer their class date until the next one 2 weeks later for family issues and the HR lady pretty much said, you got your ticket to get home, use it. We felt sorry for the guy, but then somebody who knew him found out his family issue was that he had to house sit for his parents while they were on vacation. Then we didnt feel so sorry for him. The question you have to ask yourself is would you be happy at your current job long term if XJT took away the job offer or would you be happier at XJT long term if you burned your current job.

they wont let you defer it. WE are hiring like mad. i know a guy who interviewed yesterday and his class date is on this coming Monday. If i were you i would let them know now before you go interview, unless you plan on excepting the job now.

Go to the interview and take the class. Don't worry about a verbal contract of any sort. It won't hold up in court and the second most companies won't take the time to get a lawyer. It will cost them more money than what is worth. I have had verbal agreement and written contracts. Things change daily where you might not be able to fulfill the obligation. Delaying a class can mean a couple hundred senority numbers. If XJT is ever to furlough down the road for some reason that could be a big differance of being on the street. That happened to me when I was at the regionals. I was given three class dates and I chose the 3 date and It cost me a furlough and displacement to the right seat a couple of times. Don't waste any time.
Some companies may not even call you back for a class date if you deferr it, even though you were hired. I know there are regionals out there that do that. So, be very wise on your decision.

Ok guys thanks

Can you current job really be that great if you are leaving it for XJT? Call in sick and go interview.

PS- Don't send a resume unless you are ready to interview somewhere.

There is a fantastic thing called the Emancipation Proclamation. It basically says that you do not have to work any where that you don't want to. If there was a training contract you might have to pay back some money but that is it. No one can force you to work any where.

Burn The Bridge!!!! Yea Baby Burn It Down And Go Take A Chance Burn Baby Burn!!!!

And this is exactly why we have training contracts in this industry. If a pilot's word isn't his bond, then the employers will make the next pilot sign a contract. I wouldn't say that it is a good idea to break a commitment, including a verbal commitment. If you talk to your current employer, and they are willing to let you go, then go for it. This is, of course, only my opinion. Feel free to disagree with it.

Superpilot92, I wonder how long the admins will let that chick on your avatar stay.

Beats me...two years ago when their minimums we're 600/100 I applied. Freight Dog at the time with approximately 1500/500. Got a call, faxed my resume, they then snottily responded to me on the phone they I didn't meet the "hiring criteria". Hung up the phone, laughed, went to SkyWest. Best thing that ever happened to me.

Apparently the US bankrupty court system has never heard of this, what do you google to find out more information to forward to them? :puke:

I've gotta agree with iflyjets4food on this one. Do the interview, and see if the current employer will work with you. Your word is your word. XJT might work with you for one or 2 class dates but not likely for 6 months. If you can delay 1 or 2 dates that may be enough for you and your employer to find a replacement..... Otherwise you are surely burning this bridge....

I've been waiting here two years for someone to say something dumb enough to warrant quoting it as my signature. Thank you Capt.

I hear great things about XJ, but then I hear things like this. I also heard from a friend of mine that interviewed and they wanted them in class SIX days later and said: If you can't be in class on that day, leave now. I mean, that is kind of silly at least. Spin someone up, fly them out, then tell them they can't even give an employer more notice than that? At least tell people before they're sitting in front of you. I suppose XJ wouldn't mind if you dropped them with 6 days notice? Kind of strange from what's supposed to be a great place to work. Don't understand the logic is all I'm sayin'. And might as well have them in the pipe for later if you're hiring that many. Pressure tactic? I just didn't get where they were coming from.

TSA let me defer TWO classes because of previous obligations. They were really nice people all around, very helpful. Continued to be, even after the interview was long over.

XJ is Mesabe, XJT is expressjet. Who are you talking about? The way expressjet is hiring now, everybody who applies should know that they could be in class less than a week after they interview. It is all over this site as well as numerous others how short the time is. If you cant attend class in a weeks time after your interview, delay your interview, dont try to delay your class date. This is a great place to work, but understand how HR works(that actually isnt possible). They interview only about 4 times a month(maybe more now) and they interview enough to fill the next weeks class and maybe a few for the week after that. That is how they operate, the dont fill a pool with people, they interview what they need for the following week(and in some cases two weeks).
