CHQ is prob. around 1 year, XJT is running around 16-17 month for ERJ upgrade, and Comair most junior CA was just awarded and she was a 3/06 hire on the RJ. But you never know, upgrade changes at the drop of a nun's panties.....

I just about took the bait--hook, line, and sinker.

Current upgrade classes at XJT have guys about 27 months. (just over 2 years if you suck at math...)

I heard the upgrade time at American Eagle is like 7 years. Why is it so long, and what makes pilots want to stick around there?
Because Eagle has a flowthrough program with American, when 2001 hit and many of the flowthroughs were furloughed they came to Eagle and took a lot of CA's jobs and displaced those CAs to FO's. Untill this month American has not called back any furloughs. Jan is starting their first requalification class and upgrade times here are expected to drop to 3-4 years. Besides that Eagle is a very stable company to work for, great equipment and good bases. Eagle is owned by American so no need to worry about losing our contract with our mainline!

Unless you are a wholly-owned subsidary of a contract carrier!!! Talk about the lowest of the low!!!

Mesa 1900s are running about 12 weeks. What's the rush anyways? You're not going to have many stories to tell to major airline interview boards with only a few years regional experience.

Uh, no they're not. At least not by anyone who really understands what drives the upgrades (growth and attrition from the left seat, neither of which are significantly happening here, and the flowbacks leaving will only get through the top 400 FOs over a period of about 3 years). At best we will see 5 years for a brief period of time if non-flowback attrition picks up. And, if age 60 goes away then upgrades will be a dozen years because there will be nowhere for the current captains to go. Not trying to pee on your cheerios, I just don't think an Eagle newhire should count on less than 5 years to upgrade.

And if you think this job is rock solid secure you're doubly delusional. Sorry.

well at Colgan you start at 350 seniority. 175 to hold captain. they upgrade about 5 a month. so if you do the math we are talking about 35 months. of course there is massive FO attrition so you can shave that down to about 24-30 months.

Yeh your welcome I might have moved you up one number Suppah! I was one of those FO's that left. SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YA!

1 year at CHQ. it seems low. can somebody else confirm?

I heard the upgrade time at American Eagle is like 7 years. Why is it so long, and what makes pilots want to stick around there?

I stick around because aside from upgrade time, it's a great place to work for me and I live 20 minutes from the airport. I hold good lines with 14-15 days off and this year I'll make almost $50,000. Crew scheduling doesn't bother me and I've never even met my chief pilot. I NEVER get hassled about sick calls and have never been called on my day off.

As for the upgrades, I predict the roof will blow off of this place in the next 6-12 months. Recalls to AA start in January which will mean 450 flowback captains going back to AA and probably another 450 Eagle captains with AA flow-through numbers. That'll mean 900 upgrades, that's almost 1/3 of all fo's. Of course it won't happen overnight but the company is worried enough that they have already contacted ALPA about possibly front-loading captain upgrades. They don't want to get caught with their pants down.

Bottom line: I like my job, a lot!

Chq, republic, and shuttle currently is 07/04 (most junior). Should stay around that for another 6 to 7 months. Then it will start to trickle to 3/4/5 years with all the growth complete. But we all know things change.

Did I read this correct? Comair upgrades are about 8 months???

But Mesa is 8 months for the Dash-8 and about 6 for the 1900. It is comforting though that the FO's from the bridge program have 300 hours.

I think they mistakenly put "months" where they meant to say "years".
One thing that I am sure of is that comair upgrade is not 8 years. Most Junior captain there was hired Feb of 2002, sounds more like 4-5 years to me.
