In any of the situations above, is there anyway that Comair wins?

It's on the news in 'da ATL that Delta has said they're not interested.

This will have to become a hostile takeover. US Air is offering $1.25 on the dollar to the creditors for Delta stock. This may be interesting indeed.

Delta's in BK - they will have little say. If I default on my mortgage, I can say that I don't want my house foreclosed on too.

This puts jobs security at the top the priority list for me. USAirways has jets4 jobs and this could spawn a whole new round of furloughs at the mainline level.

Maybe not. If AirTran/JetBlue/Southwest can pick up some of the debris leftover by the merger, they may not fight too hard.

I'd bet JetBlue could be bought for some slots and gates at LGA and JFK. I'd bet AirTran could be bought by a US/Delta reduction of flying out of ATL. Southwest might be for it if US/Delta cough up 1/2 the PHL operation.

In short... if a merger reduces the number of airplanes in the hubs, the Low Cost Carriers may not stand in the way.

Very True J32! What is kinda funny is that 4 years ago Delta Dropped all there prices against US Airways to try and put the final nail into there coffin (anyone remember that) only to have US Airways come back 4 years later and try a hostile takeover of Delta!!!! Too Too Funny!!!

I agree that a regional bloodbath will result if a merger happens. ASA and Comair will battle with Republic/CHQ, PDT and Mesa for the scraps as cost "synergies" are realized... If regional guys are interested in flying for a Legacy carrier some day, this will only delay things for them - fewer new seats for everyone. Good times.
