Fws-kbfi

Heard the same rumor several weeks ago from a MD-11 professional. Heard the same rumor a few days ago from a workerbee who saw FSW-KBFI on the sked board about five or so weeks ago. This was about the time inwhich Airbus announced it would advise customers in a four week time frame, about the real amount of time it will take to get the A-380 out the door and to their respective companies.

My guess is that FWS realizes he losses capability with any airframe smaller than the A-380, but you have lost nothing if that capability never shows up.

Saw a 777 in Seattle yesterday painted with the Big FedEx on the side. It had the new livery - We are the World - that we will start to see on the 727-100s getting back from inspection.

So we are back in the pax business again?

777s

Latest rumor I heard was that one of our guys was D/Hing out of Mem and sitting next to a Boeing exec headed to ORD who said we are "looking seriously" at the 777. Mainly because we are so short of lift in the far east.

The article was in the business section. They mentioned the -100s.

There is no such thing as a 777-100-at least not in production. Boeing doesn't do well at shrinking airframes, they're much better at stretching airframes. The 777 had a -100 proposed before launch, but they never decided to offer it formally. Basically the structure of the airplane was built to heavier to allow for the longer range/higher gross weight versions and their larger engines. Shrinking it just makes it too heavy. The A330 is a lighter airframe and was shrunk succesfully with the A330-200. That airplane was selling well against the 767-300/400 which prompted Boeing to come out with Sonic Cruiser and finally the 787.

 That would be one smart decision on Fred's part!! 777 is the "Big Mac Twin Daddy!!" Nothing can compete in it's class. It will be one bad mother trucker.....beep beep, keep on truckin baby!

That's what I meant.

Any word on when they will take delivery of the first a/c? Also, there have been rumors that the new 777s and 757s possibly will be based in a new domicile (in addition to MEM, of course) that Fedex is considering. Has anyone heard anything on a new crew base?

A$$!!!! Both of yous guys.
I'm glad to see that you used the proper New Jersey second person plural pronoun of "you's" vice the redneck "y'all," or the gay sounding Pittsburgh "y'ins."

All of Jersey thanks you. Go Giants.

I'm not so sure I'd be advertising yourself as the spokesman of New Jersey. People who don't know you will probably get a mental image of Joey Buttafuoco. Which is....well, accurate. How's the body shop business?

Hey Sluggo,
Shouldn't you be sucking up some tax dollars or instructing someone.......instead of yapping in FI?

FedEx Express to Acquire Boeing 777 Freighters

Company Cancels A380 Order
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FedEx Express, a unit of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), announced today an agreement with The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) to acquire 15 new Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft with options to purchase an additional 15 aircraft. The decision to purchase the 777F was made after Airbus announced significant delays in delivery of the A380. FedEx Express notified Airbus that it has cancelled its order for 10 A380-800Fs.
"Global demand for air cargo and express services continues to grow rapidly and FedEx has made significant investments in our network to meet customers’ needs and fulfill our business objectives. Therefore, it was necessary and prudent for us to acquire the Boeing 777 Freighter." said Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president and chief executive officer, FedEx Corp. “The availability and delivery timing of this aircraft, coupled with its attractive payload range and economics, make this choice the best decision for FedEx, its customers, shareowners and employees.”
FedEx Express continues to be Airbus' largest wide-body airplane customer and will add additional new and used Airbus wide-body aircraft to its fleet in coming years. Six new A300-600 aircraft are scheduled to join the FedEx fleet in 2007.
Boeing 777
The Boeing 777 Freighter is the world’s largest twin-engine cargo aircraft with a range of more than 6,100 nautical miles and a revenue payload capacity of 171,000 pounds. This represents a 2,200 nautical mile increase in range and an additional 8,500 pounds of revenue payload over the MD-11F, which is FedEx’s primary long-haul aircraft. These advantages will result in more non-stop, point-to-point transoceanic routes with shorter flight times, enabling improved service offerings to FedEx customers. FedEx Express is expected to take delivery of four of the 777 aircraft in calendar year 2009, eight in 2010 and the remaining three in 2011.
“The Boeing 777F will allow FedEx Express to fly directly between major markets and hubs in Asia, Europe and the U.S. with more freight and in less time than it takes today, improving fuel efficiency and lowering total operating costs,” said David J. Bronczek, president and chief executive officer, FedEx Express.
