Last Update: 8:32 AM ET Oct 30, 2006

<IMG class=pixelTracking height=1 width=1 border=0>SKYW26.27, +0.16, +0.6%) said Monday its third-quarter net income rose to 35% to $40.7 million, or 63 cents a share, from $30.1 million, or 51 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. The St. George, Utah, regional airline said revenue in the three months ended Sept. 30 rose more than 59% to $791.8 million from $497.3 million. SkyWest said its revenue climbed on a 63.3% increase in capacity, or available seat miles, as a result of its acquisition of Atlantic Southeast Airlines in September 2005. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call forecast earnings, on average, of 63 cents a share and four analysts forecast revenue of $806.3 million.

Corporate Greed Pal...Corporate Greed

5% net profit margin corporate greed? I don't think so. I'd like me a cut of that for sure, but hardly out of line in this sector, and well below many others by a large margin.

5.1% profit margin after taxes, 8.2% before taxes. Either way, not bad for the industry, but not great for a mature business that needs to show a reasonable balance sheet in order to borrow large amounts of money at low rates. How do you think we compete with Mesa while paying our people more?

Corporate greed? What's greedy about jerry giving ASA pilots preferential interviews? letting them keep their longevity for benefits if they decide come to Skywest? ASA getting the LAX domiclie?

Jerry, Brad, Ron, etc. have been running Skywest for a long time. They could easily retire rich men. I can't imagine that they're in this for the money anymore. Think about what Skywest would be like if they decided they were sick of it and retired. We could get some short sighted CEO of the hour and then we'd see corporate greed.

Yea Jerry and company have done so much for ASA, I'm with you on that except for the fact that I keep seeing OUR airplanes in your chop shop getting scab west painted on them. You people are something else.

That NOM% is for a company that has zero operational (fuel, rent, landing fees, insurance, MX, etc) risk to capital.

Compare the NOM% to airlines that have complete operational expense risk.

You sir are a tool.

They dont pay for MX? You sir are an idiot!

You are a pilot, yes? God help us all.

Zero operational risk to capital is very different than "dont pay for MX"?

The only line item SkyWest is at operationally at risk for is employee costs.

I'm sorry that you don't understand the difference. It sucks to be you, I guess.

I try and help.

Take fuel for example. SkyWest has zero risk for fuel. When fuel goes up, SkyWest transfers to the codeshare partner the upside in fuel expense. SkyWest isn't on the hook for the increased opetional cost - AKA no risk. It's the same story for training, MX, insurance, etc.

An 8% operating margin from a company that has zero operational risk, except for the easy to nibble away costs of a non-unionized work force, is a very strong OM%.

Here is a question for you:

In 1999 SkyWest had a OM of 16% and in 2005 a OM of 11%.

Which was the more profitable year:

A). 1999,
B). 2005.

I know what the company said and the tools of SAPA said.

If you say "A - 1999", well you don't understand the operational risk to capital of SkyWest in 1999 vs. 2005. An you sir, just crack me up. Enjoy the free cool aid being provided each an every day by the tools of SAPA.
