In today's(Sunday) useless AJC is a job add for SKYWEST. They are hiring Pilots, F/A's, Customer Service and Ramp. It is an open house at Cobb Galleria from 10-3 on Thurs Sept 28th.

Decide for yourself....But it sounds like they are going to open a base here! This maybe the beginning of the end of ASA. I vote to shut it down vs. a sustandard contract. 90 mill in profit and making less than CHQ,COEX,CMR,EAGLE, SKYWEST and the list goes on.

This is not flame bait....look in the AJC for yourself under "airline".

Better get the resume ready!

Peace

SkyWest has been having career events, hiring fairs, group interviews, etc. in tons of large cities nationwide. No plans for an ATL base has been announced to date.

Get your facts straight. They had a MEM and STL open house. That doesn't mean that they are going to open bases in those areas.

I hope they get a good taste of what the Atlanta labor pool is like. Funny that they're having it in Cobb county instead of at the World Conference Center or by the airport. Perhaps trying to attract a "different demographic"?

Were they interviewing for Ramp and CSA at open houses in MEM and STL. What would be the point? Folks going to relocate to SLC to work the ramp or gate?

SkyWest has a lot of places where they don't fly, but ground handle flights only. STL and MEM are destinations, so they need people there to handle the flights........It wouldn't surprise me if SkyWest takes over the ground handling of ATL too.........but I think the add was just an "open house" type of event like they've been having all over the place...

Makes sense. Thanks.

WTF? First the ASA guys say SKYW pilots are gutless wonders because we fly everything for 50 seat rates, and now suddenly we make more than them? I dont understand...

Skywest pilots do make more than ASA pilots. We have a lower paygrade, and only small percentage contributed to 401K, nothing else.

I heard that the only reason SKYW bought ASA was to increase diversity.

Cobb County?????????

The sky is falling!! Seriously, the only thing worse than a bad rumor is someone spreading one. In this business believe it when it happens, until then don't worry about it.

Well...

I don't read that AJC rag.

I was only responding to the guy who said it was at the Cobb Galleria. The first post was for a skywest job fair, not ASA.

It doesn't surprise me that ASA is holding theirs at the airport HI on Virginia Ave.. Maybe that's what's wrong with our ramp? Location, location, location.

They need to drop the travel privileges part because it's almost impossible to non-rev on ASA due to weight and balance issues from tankering fuel out of ATL.

Make NO MISTAKE about it. Skywest is advertising a job fair for pilots on 9/28 at the cobb galleria. Take to mean whatever you like but I for one think that SKW wants to open a pilot base here. Otherwise it would be an ASA job fair.

How many airlines do you know of that hire pilots locally. Pilots apply for a job, get a job, then either relocate or commute. Unless of course you're talking about a traffic watch job or some such thing.

did it ever occur to you that skywest might just be making it a little more convenient for qualified pilots to apply?.....They know there are ASA pilots who are wanting to switch employers, and they're going to where the pilots are. The same thing happened after Independence shut down. Skywest had a pretty big career fair in D.C........funny, I don't see a pilot base there......

When I worked at PSA I remember they would do that, go to a city where there was other companies and do interviews. It is just a good way to find pilots.

Yes it did occur to me....maybe i am looking at the glass as 1/2 empty. It also occurs to me that SKW has an contract to provide regional lift for an airline based in Atlanta. Right now its done by its subsedary (m.s.) ASA. As an ASA pilot this is troublesome because of what i perceive as nothing short of union busting 101.
Maybe I am wrong....I hope I am... but I do not think we should discount this either. Now don't think I am saying we should sign a bullsh!t contract. What I am saying is we need to put as much pressure on both ALPA and the company to get this done quick and prevent SKW from busting us up.

Then how do you explain Popeyes vs Wendy's on Councourse C? It's not the talent pool, it's the lack of talent in ASA managment.

What about Delta signing an agreement that ASA has 80% of DCI out of Atlanta for the next 15 years? If ASA keeps up the numbers, how could Skywest take a bite out of the 80%?

Smacktard,

Have you no shame? Comparing ASA's management team to Wendy's and Popeye's managment teams is downright disrespectful...

....downright disrespectful to the Wendy's and Popeye's managers.

I am not sure. If SKW owns ASA whos flying is it? They say that we are run as separate entities but they are ( or soon will ) xfer assets aka 70's or 90's ?
