The doomsdayers are saying we'll be gone in 4yrs.

The koolaid drinkers think we'll continue to be one of the places to be.

What do you think? Just some healthy discussion.

Flying airplanes.

Not XJT's, or CAL's

Maybe an airplane painted in XJT's paintshop in MMIO operated by "pick your bottom feeder/ lowering the bar" shiny jet operator.

I'm not bitter, just wish they made a better tasting Light Beer.

Why would they be gone in 4 years? It's my understanding that Continental can only take away 25% of the flying at a time, every 3 years. XJT losing 25% in '07, possibly, likely but not certain. 2010 before they can take another 25% and then 2013 and 2016. I'm sure way before the end, XJT would have other code shares going for them at the very least.

OK, you asked. By 2016 we'll be gone then. Think about it. XJT is a paper company. CAL owns everything we use. Once the CPA is gone, XJT is no longer profitable, XJT Holdings then ops to fold an unprofitable component and concentrates on training other crewmembers, painting airplanes, and chartering out of Conroe..

Or... in late 2006 CAL declares BK because it won't be able to compete against DAL and NW, nulifies the CPA altogether and we're gone by 2007 ;-)

Either way, XJET shouldn't be part of your long term career plans...

The kool air drinkers think that CAL and XJT will reach an agreement before the planes leave. I don't think CAL will resign with us no matter what price we give them. Like it or not CAL wants to diversify their RJ flying to protect themselves which unfortunately for us is good business for them. The truth is, XJT would be better off finding some other code share to fly the 69 airplanes under to protect itself just as CAL would be doing. That would be the best case scenario. Problem is, no one needs 69 50-seaters. Thats where www.expressjeteurope.com comes in to play. The pilots here in my opinion will not be doing the flying if it does go to Europe (the kool aid drinkers will tell you we will be. You know N numbered registered aircraft and all....BS!!). My reasoning? XJT Holdings owns a minority share in the company and our scope only covers us for 19 seat or more flying done by "Holdings" that is governed by the RLA (Railway Labor Act for those who don't know the term). There lies the question, is it "Holdings" flying and would European flying be governed by the RLA? I somehow doubt it too many loopholes. We need to come to grips with the fact that what is good for XJT the company might not be good for XJT pilots. I don't like that fact but it's the truth.

Translation. If you are looking for a regional to get your foot in the door of 121 flying, get furloughed, and jump ship to somewhere else, welcome aboard. If you want a place to hang your hat for a few years, you're about 12-18 mos. too late. Good luck.

Ya, Let me know a regional out there where it's safe to hang your hat on. Regionals are dying fast. No where is a safe place to be. Except maybe on the cargo side of things

Can anyone tell me what's going to happen to the new hires after end of this year? Will express jet find an other airline to fly for soon enough before furloughing people?

Very true. Perhaps what I was getting at is that despite the fact that no regional is really a safe bet, I do believe that there are some more stable places to be at least at this given time. Obviously I could be wrong and things will probably change...Air Wisky comes to mind. I just believe that XJT is especially vulnerable right now because we fly for CAL and CAL only.

I am not looking to go anywhere. I'm safe for a little while.

I was curious what you guys thought. Those who are not freaking out.

The company would probably liquidate before it would shrink to that size.
Remeber XJT's got a lot cash and no debt. The shareholders would probably rather get a slice of that then see it go down the drain.

Just my 2 cents.

Damn dude if someone knows the answer to that question this thread wouldn't be necessary now would it? Only thing you can do is go to work, do your job the best way you know how, hope for the best, and realise that the outcome is almost entirely out of your hands.

Has XJT paid CAL all the $$$ it owes them yet. I know they were accelerating payments, but have they paid it all the way down yet?

It's my understanding that the last payment is scheduled for late March. This is according to the Q4 XJT Earnings conference call. Perhaps someone could correct me if I have misinterpreted this.

you are correct. Dont forget there are a lot of mgmt people here whos futures also include this company sticking around. This company will be around in some sort or fashion. Who knows we may end up buying or merging with another company. There are way to many variables that COULD happen we wont know till it happens. So hope for the best and enjoy the ride.

Went in for a PC earlier this week, and was talking with 2 new hire trainees in the lobby. Apparently JR came into their Indoc and told them that there was nothing to worry about. Negotiations are continuing with CAL, and more opportunities lie on the horizon. XJT Europe, Asia?, and my favorite, Southwest Express! Who knows what's going to happen. My new hire class was told that we should be flying 190's by now. On a positive note, the most junior CA now is a 3/04 hire date.

MMMM

Thats good kool-aid.

Everytime I hear the Southwest Express rumor I want to puke. It's quite possibly the most rediculous thing anyone has ever come up with.

XJET will pick up some flying from someone I'm sure......but only after pretty heavy concessions. All the big talkers will fold over just like Comair did. XJET will have to get it's costs down, and management will use these 69 planes as a perfect excuse to do that. Ya'll can kiss that nice contract goodbye.

Dam-n, you must be a noob. There will NEVER be a Southwest express. It completely goes against their business plan. Lay off the Kool-Aid, buddy.

I'd rather hear this kind of stuff than face facts. I can't stomach another lateral move at this point so I'll hang out for a while. The problem with mgmt's optomisitic face on things is that they have to do that; if they didn't they'd be facing bad (worse?) morale and more training costs to replace those who left. So I take what they say with a grain of salt.

I think we're going to take those airplanes over to America West / US Airways and take away Mesa's flying. Live in fear, your job is not safe! Oh yeah my Mesa new hire fellow crashpad resident said that "XJT pilots make too much money". A nice guy, he'd give you the shirt off his back, just well schooled in the corporate think over there.

F$cking Moron! I guess the checks from mommy and daddy must still be rolling in for that fool. Hopefully you can educate him/her. None of us make too much money. I am sure he is happy with 8 days off per month on reserve and not getting paid anything better than block time. D%mb @ss....

Oh... who the hell knows what's going to happen here. Lots of folks are trying to leave. Key word trying, if they do lots of folks may be able to stay without furlough and if we do get to fly for someone else upgrades could continue. Then again we could all be on the street tomorrow. Xjet is a great place to work. You are taking your chance anywhere you go.

Hold the line. No PAY to PLAY!

Have no fear. ALPA will rise to your defense and protect you from that possibility.
