What's wrong with "Baby Bus?" I had ATC call out a "Baby Bus" (their exact words)as traffic to me once and we responded "coochie coochie coo, Baby Bus in sight" and the Bus drivers got a kick out of it. Maybe it's the tone used when saying it all, but in instances such as this, usually people can find some of it humorous. Of course this was at 1230am out of Houston so there was not much traffic, so i am sure ATC was just trying to stay awake and have some fun himself.

I mean come on, the RJ has been stretched and tweaked, but at heart it is still a Challenger business jet.
Yea, but the guys flying the business jet version are individually paid more than all three crewmembers on the streatched version combined. :p

A "baby bus" or "mini bus" is an A318 or A319. A "bus" is an A320. A "heavy bus" is an A300, A310, A330, or A340. A "fat bus" is an A380. A 757 is a "sexy hotrod." There you go.

ASA on final, DAL being vectored for a visual last night. Everytime ATC referenced the RJ, DAL pilot responded, "we see the commuter", "we'll follow the commuter'.

Really, is this necessary? ASA pilots feel your pain, and we have no control over your management and their use of RJs. I busted my arse getting a DAL pilot the jump seat last month, and will continue to do so. I'm sure this is just one rotten apple in the bunch. Anyway, no big deal, just think comments like this help no one.

Fact is you'll never know the true intent of that guy on the radio. Maybe it was the FO working the radio and he's from the "commuters", or maybe it was the capt on the radio. It's been my experience humor is the best approach (tongue & cheek) Try and take it in stride and come back with "humor." Out of JFK one morning I heard ATC instructing Delta to follow Jetblue and Delta replied "we'll follow the low cost airline..." and Jetblue was quick to respond " understood, low cost to lead Delta" Have fun and go with it while you're in the air.

[sarcasm on]

Regional, schmegional.

I'm sick of being called "White" by the HR types.

I demand to be called "European-American"!

[sarcasm off]

We get called "mini-bus" all the time.

We used to get called "bowling shoe".

I heard a bizjet pilot, who was told to follow a SW 737 reply....
" Roger, we'll follow the corn dog".

Ain't no thang,

I'm Surprised

Today I was taxiing to the gate at ORD when I heard the ground controller tell a United "guppy" to follow the "Replacement Jet" ahead and to his left. I think everyone involved was clear on the request......

We followed a "luv jet" into ELP once. Hope they SWA guys weren't upset when I called it that!!

It's not that it's necessary, but why are you getting your panties in a wad over being called a commuter. ASA was a commuter for a long time and in my opinion, should still be one. What do you mean you feel their pain? You certainly don't seem to have a problem flying your little RJ on DAL's routes that should have Boeings on them. Part of the reason DAL has pilots on furlough is because you're stealing more and more of their routes.
Just my opinion.

And in my opinion Delta should've stuck with crop-dusting! They were at least making money. Imagine the crop that could be dusted with a 777. WOW

I think your opinion would be wrong.

Its not ASA's decision to fly "little RJs" on "routes that should have Boeings on them", its the decision of Delta management. There's no telling how many former mainline routes were unprofitable with narrowbodies before 9/11 and how many are now, but its safe to say some current RJ cities need more or all narrowbodies on them due to demand.

Lets also not forget that DAL pilots wanted nothing to do with the RJ in the early 1990s. DALPA also didn't want to merge seniority lists with ASA & Comair. Unfortunately, Delta pilots are now reaping the seeds they have sewn, although those most affected weren't around for either decision. And you want to blame RJ pilots. Unbelivable...
