Otto Coarsen

Let me start by saying I would never apply there even if I was unemployed.... So don't think I'm writing this because I got rejected or something...

I used to fly for Cape Air... I have a few friends there that have had their share of fun in a twin cessna and are looking for 121 jobs in this finally improving job market..

Two of these guy applied to Coex online recently.. The filled out the web form which supposedly doesn't even allow you to list your experience, specific hours, or specific education.. Then a min wage telemarketer asked them how they would react to an elderly woman who became and irate insisting that the landing was too "HARD".. (Yeah that's a real world scenario) then stated a recruiter will be in contact....

A week later BOTH of these guys received rejection postcards that actually said they didn't posses the "experience" to meet their needs..

Now I'll tell you BOTH of these guys had 2500+ hours, 1000+ multi, ATP's for at least a year, and 4 year degrees from GOOD universities... On top of that, they have flown single pilot in basically the WORST weather in the US with a passenger sitting next to them in busy airspace... Enough Experience?????? Give me a break.... For CoEx??? The same CoEX that used to hire 1000 hr wondersticks pre-911???? The same Coex staffed by these 1000 hr wondersticks???

This is just as assinine as the verbally abusive interviews they gave in the mid 1990s... Real solid group over there... Impressive...

I guess personality counts for something here. The amount of flying time one has in a prop does not determine their qualifications at this company. Its all about good attitude.

XJT assninie interview is right

I did what your friiends did. I answered the way it should be answered.. logically and with common sense..along with the question about whether or not u depart with TSTRMS over the field...got the same postcard telling me that they didnt have any jobs that fit my qualifications...I guess they would rather drop some planes from the sky taking off into TSTRM's or piss of the pax about landings...go figure..

Hey guys, I guess all I can say is don't take it personal.
I've been tempted to fill out the online app and see if they will call me with the same questions, and see if I get called in for an interview :) (even though I already work here)
I'd almost put $$$ on it that most of us that already work here probably wouldn't make it through their hiring process......go figure!

Just curious, for those of you who got the "thanks but no thanks" postcard, what were you told after you answered the questions? did they say that you would be contacted in 60 - 90 days by a senior recruiter or did they say that you should get something in the mail within 8 - 10 days?

Thanks

Hello

I wasnt sure what the minimums were so I filled it out and called the 800 number and he asked me a question or two then said someone will be in contact withtin 60-90 days. I tried to ask him what the minimums were and he said I dont understand the question, someone will call you in 60-90 days. I again asked how much total time and multi time do you need to get the job and he said im sorry sir I dont know what you mean, someone will call you in 60-90 days. Turns out i didnt have enough time(under 1500 and 500 multi). I understand if i dont meet the minimums but for hell sakes they should at least have people who know the industury doing the screening... I just happened to browse their webside and filled out the app but they had no minimums listed. I later logged onto here and figured it out...

The TS were at the destination, not departure.

If you never flew whenever TS are around, you'd miss half your flights in the summer and spring. I told the guy that we'd take off, but only after making sure I changed my alternate to somewhere with better wx, loading up more fuel since TS usually result in holding at the destination, then briefing the other pilot about our TS avoidance techniques (wx radar, talking to ATC, etc..). He told me it was the best answer he'd heard so far. He said that a lot of people treated this as a yes or no question. Some simply said, "Yes, we'd take off" or "No, we'd stay on the ground" and then just left it at that. Wrong answer on both parts.

Just curious, but is the world's angriest cardiac case (jd) still running pilot recruiting? I had heard that he was shown the door after 9/11.

FWIW, I have a friend who interviewd in early '99, FINISHED the IQ test and was rejected after the second interview--being told he should work for nasa, not coex. He now works for SWA.

hey chuy...it was departure...

chuy, it was a departure question, not an arrival and the question was"what would you do if you were scheduled to depart and there was a thunderstorm over the airport?"......arrivals are an easy one to answer, so are the departures especially if they are directly overhead the airport...sound like they are asking either a few different questions or the people asking them dont know what they are doing..

John Dresser no longer works for ExpressJet.

I got the thanks but no thanks card with 2400TT/600ME. I was one of the first to get the call and was never asked to read the script, although I had printed it out.

From what I remember, the TS question was as the above poster said. I took that to mean the departure airport. I told her that I needed more info to give her an honest and adequate answer (ie. was it a squall line or a level 1 TS). She agreed that other people were also having problems with the vagueness of the question and that they would have to reword it, which they apparently did. My answer ended up being that I would use the resources available (weather reports and radar, pireps, etc) and if I felt it was safe, I'd go. If not, I'd wait it out. I fly for a small 135 freight company and we don't have dispatch so that never entered my mind.

She then told me I would be notified of my status within a week to 10 days.

I for one am very disappointed with the process, and not just because I got a postcard. I know several people that fly for XJT and all were shocked by the way recruitment is being handled. If I'm going to be turned down for a job, let it be by an interview board of professional aviators and airline HR personnel, not telemarketer types reading from a computer who don't understand the questions they're asking or the answers they're getting. XJT is turning away a lot of good, quality applicants.

always has, always will....

i can't help but chuckle, though. xjet overall is a good company to work for. there's a few things 'they' do that just make the rest of the intelligent, civilized world shake their heads and wonder just what the he!! they were thinking... the hiring process remains to be one of those.

The real life answer is a no brainer.. As soon as lightning strikes you aint getting nowhere.. lol.. The choice won't even be yours.. No rampers, no taxi clearances, and they will start "a list" on clearance delivery for when they decide the airport will resume departures, you can get your clearance.

Perhaps it was, douchebag.... but not by me... If you could read You'd see that I wasn't the one interviewed.... I was commenting on the process as observed by me.... a bystander.....

FYI I have an airline job... In fact I just Quit my 121 job to go to a slightly better 121 job...

Do the research, if you want, into my previous posts... I think you'll figure out where I've been and Where I'm Going.... Go ahead flame away too...

I got up and walked out of a coex interview in some sleazy hotel room in Hou, JD asked me the most assinine questions and then insulted me 2 times. I had over 1000 hours jet time at the interview, and was far more qualified thatn most of their hirees.

JD was just showing the true face of XJT. There are always folks asking assinine questions in sleazy hotel rooms here. Also, with all of the "fine" folks at CAL that we're associated with, it's no wonder that we get insulted.

It's a good thing that you got up and left. I would have hit him if it was me. Never saw JD during my interview, though.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

is there anyone else that thinks that they were asked the questions on the telephone interview incorrectly or that they question was paraphrased? everyone elese i see was asked about TSTRM's at the destination airport....i was asked about them at the departure...and then i got the postcard...I called and told them so and I was told by "Derek" that I wasnt the first person to have reported that the questions were not being read verbatim. I am supposed to be contacted by H/R within a few days about this. Anyone else with this experience please let me know either email, im , or here..
Thanks

Just reply, "if I see lightning, the I am GOING. Ligtning gives out some light which will make it easier to see where the heck I am going. And, we know that COEX wants everyone to be ontime, so why delay for something less than a hurricane? And, tornadoes are ususally fairly narrow in girth, so we could easily fly around them...."

Bye Bye--General Lee:cool:

Nah... I've got flow.... I just like that word "Douchebag"... In fact I use it typically 5 or more times a day!..

I applied online 12-23 and passed the initial phase. I made the phone call and was told to expect a phone call within 60-90 days from a senior recruiter. I still have not heard anything or received a letter. Was anyone else told to expect a phone call and they got a letter instead? And if so, how long did it take?

As for the wx question at the destination airport, they were looking for a simple answer: that you would talk it over with DISPATCH and make a decision together. From what I understand, many of the applicants had great answers and for the most part were all correct but if you did not use the keyword "DISPATCH" then that was the end of the interview.

Good luck to everyone in all of their endeavors!
