Have a question for any XJET guys on this commuter pass. Is it worth it? Do you get a parking pass or anything at your home airport? Not much info on it during orientation and trying to get some additional info.

Thanks

Thanks

It's not worth it.

Commuter pass costs the same $$.$$ per pass as just listing yourself.

The reason it sucks is that if you miss a trip due to illness,FMLA or ever take a vacation, the automatic payroll deduct still occurs and you pay for commuitng even though you are home sick/vacation/FMLA.

Some good advice is to list yourself for each flight and just pay for the travel that you use. no more, no less.

Even better advice, JUMPSEAT!...it's free.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

Thanks B. Franklin,

Thats probably what I am going to do. I don't lose my Delta pass bennies until May so I am sure I will just jumpseat back and forth to Atlanta from EWR. What's the cost of the Leather Jacket? Is it worth the money for the leather Jacket versus the regular Jacket?

Thanks

The leather jacket is payroll deducted and interest free. I recommend the leather jacket it's cold doing walk arounds in a blizzard and that's your new job congrats!

The other nice thing is the name patch comes off (velcro) and now you have your overnight jacket. One less thing you have to pack in your suitcase.

You are going to get a million different suggestions on the leather coat, blazer, and in EWR alot of the trench coat mafia. You have to choose what suits you best and get all three if you can't decide it's payroll deducted.;)

I think the leather jackets are around $400.00... I never have had one.

People that I know who have them seem to like them an awful lot.

I think that they like them so much because you can take off the patch with your wings on it as well as other "pilot" info and wear the jacket on your off time, you know- in the bar.

Also, I believe that you can payroll deduct the uniform costs.

Since you'll be on probation, be sure to wear your hat whenever you wear the jacket at work. Wait until you get off probation to particitpate in the hat/no hat discussion is all I'm saying - to be safe.

Good luck in training and welcome to XJT!

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

I am also a ATL/BHM commuter (I use both airports). Even though we still can not jumpseat in the cockpit of offline carriers we can still sit in the back. I highly recommend jumping on Delta/ASA/Comair rather than on mainline Continental if you are going to EWR. I find it much easier, nicer, and friendlier that way. Also, out of BHM it is almost always an XJT E145 and even easier.

Welcome and Frats,
A Deltoid

PS: Get the Leather. The new Jacket has a zip out liner. I have the old style with a stiched in liner, but I would like to upgrade to the new one. Also, the company requires that you get the blazer as well.

And, always wear your hat! :)

Thanks for all the info guys, I am liking my decision to come to XJET. I think I will get the leather Jacket.

Ben,
Thanks for the tip on the Hat!! I will wear it like the good little F/O I need to be for this first year. Then all bets are off!!!!

Good info on commuting. My fiance' works for Delta so when I get married I will have the non-rev bennies again with Delta. I got 15 years with DL and its tough giving it up but I can't wait to start flying full time.

Waborita,
Thanks for the tip on the patch. Did not know that. Good call for the bar!!

I heard some interesting info today that was confirmed by a manager in network management for DL. XJET is still in the running for the RFP that DL put out for bid. Apperently , and this by the way is not completely official, DL is looking for a way to expand the RJ reach without purchasing the jets. In other words they want someone else to purchase the jets and do the flying. This puts DL in a better cash position. XJET apperently is in a position to do that. Now I don't know anything about the agreement with CAL and scope and all that but I found it interesting that XJET was bidding on DL flying and talking to DL about future options. There should be more info next week on this. Supposedly an official press release is coming soon on this decision.

Cheers

Grasping at straws, but maybe they are waiting for XJT to get a TA. Nothing worse then signing a new agreement and then have those pilots go out on strike!

By the way out of what hub of Delta's would the new flying be? Rumor at XJT of a new bid in April. Hopefully that is to get rid of some more CAL pilots, but who knows?

There is a bally's gym in Elizabeth.

Hat?

Whats the deal with the whole hat thing?

Are people getting canned for not wearing them?

Ohh.. and has anyone for the March 8th/15th class gotten their AOM in yet?

The flying would definitely be in and out of ATL, CVG, some point to point flying DL wants to do and more growth out of DFW. Good point about the TA. I don't see what gain DL has by going with XJET but apparently there is something there I am not seeing. Don't get me wrong, I am about to start at XJET and I would love to see us start doing some flying under the DL flag but you got to wonder what the strategy is there. Plus the ill will DL will create from the WO's. I know my friend at ASA is not happy at all about whats happening over there and neither is my friend at Comair.

you have to wear your hat per the FOM when you're in winter uniform, you know, like in the terminal and in front of the customers.

I was merely suggesting that probationary pilots wear the hat when required for their first year before engaging in the whole "hat/no hat" debate.

you know, keep your nose clean, stay out of the CPO, keep off the company radar screens.

Something like that.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

I am all about keepin my nose clean so I understand where your coming from there B. Franklin.

Awdad6

I got my study manual but no AOM yet. It has the basics of the program and my limitations and memory items. I assume we will get all that stuff the first day of class on the 8th.

jrcpilot,

Yeah, I've got the study manual too. I see where it has the flows and profiles, but I don't see limitations and/or memory items.
I must be over looking it....
what tab is it under?

thanks.

oops

whoops,
I posted too soon

I just found it under the last tap labeled "limitations and memory items"

Imagine that.

There are also some quizzes in the back that are good to review.
I am loving the memory items. A hell of a lot easier than the B757/767. Not a lot of differences either which is also nice.
Looks like a nice jet.

regards

.......

I too think the leather jacket is very nice. THE ONLY PROBLEM is that in addition to $10/Paycheck, or $20/Month coming out of your pay for the uniforms purchased from Cinta's, the leather jacket has a minimum of $25/Paycheck, or $50/Month to be deducted. That minimum is established by the leather jacket's company, so you HAVE to do it. SOOOO if you got the leather jacket also, your getting $70/month taken out of your paycheck for uniforms, and if your take home is only going to be ~$510/Month until "crossing-my-fingers" a new contract comes around, hell, that's almost 1/5 of your pay!!! I'm holding off on the leather, I got the blazer, and figure summer is here, I can postpone getting the leather until end of the year if I have too. BTW, get the Bancroft Hat, no the Cinta's, and the leather coats vary from ~$350, to about ~$380 for the full liner.

F$%* it!!! I am going just going to buy it. I am not into the payroll deduct for life thing. I hate seeing the deduction every check. Do you get paid every 2 weeks or is it bi-monthly? I will have to tighten the belt here for the first couple years it looks like. But I would rather tighten it here than at another carrier.

Cheers

That's what I did . . . just bought it. Get the good one, too . . . or you'll wish you had. Pay is semi-monthly on the 1st and 16th. Welcome!

Unfortunately there's no zip-out liner . . . only the option of a permanent one. I didn't get that, either. I've been a CLE-based FO (as in, I do the walkaround every leg!) for all but 2.5 months of my over four years. Unlined jacket, no sweater, short-sleeve shirts . . . no problem. Your exposure time isn't that much . . . just the walkaround. You'll want black leather gloves and a black scarf, though. The only thing I find myself wishing for is a pair of those weird ear-cover-thingies . . . I think they're called "180s". Footwear is a tough one. You spend so little time outside, burly boots don't make much sense (made that mistake), and your feet will be hot and uncomtfortable for the majority of the time. However, light uniform shoes will end you up on yer keester (with cold toes) on an icy ramp in, say, Buffalo in February. Hope this helps.
