I didn't think the airbus actually needed pilots, but just systems monitors/button pushers. But I hear they fly OK with a pilot when it gets one.

You know, I'm trying to remember, but I think 44Kts of crosswind exceeds the max demonstrated x-wind component by about 10kts. Full flaps too! These guys are good!

We don't know all the details but something is wrong with landing in that position unless you are in an emergency or unexpected windshear. If neither is the case then WTF, did they find these guys at a regional and told them they could fly a big jet for $40/hr.

A regional pilot would have completely missed the runway

Looks like the aircraft is landing at Lajes Field (Azores) where there's only one runway. This airport is well-known for its wind issues (crosswinds and shear). The field has several fuselage hulks to prove that-- these guys were very fortunate they didn't scrape that wing...

Look at the f/o's window you can clearly see his arm and hand gripping on to the hand hold, which means it was the captain's landing. Kinda explains it all really....!!!
