Alright, here's the situation. I have a student who needs to get his three bounces in at a controlled field. The closest field is about 30 miles away (Class C). My question is are the x-co endorsements in the back of the logbook only good for >50 nm or would a trip less than that, say the 30 nm flight to Class C be covered in the x-co endorsement.
Any replies would be appreciated...just want to make sure I do it legal and cover my self.
Thanks!

FAR 61.93 Solo cross country flight requirements.

(a) General
(1) Except as provided in paragraph (b) of this section, a student pilot must meet the requirements of this section before-
(1) Conducting a solo cross-country flight, or any flight greater than 25 nautical miles from the airport where the flight originated.

(b)(2) Logbook endorsement
(i) A student pilot must have a solo cross-country endorsement from an authorized instructor that is placed in the student pilot's logbook for the specific make and model of aircraft to be flown.
(ii) For each cross-country flight, the authorized instructor who reviews the cross-country planning must make an endorsement in the person's logbook after reviewing that cross-country planning.

Couldn't you sign him off for a solo XC to a field 50nm away and that field 30nm away? That way he's got a straight line 50nm distance and he can get 3 landings in...four if he goes out and back...

You can give him an endorsement for the flight to KXXX for the purpose of practising landings and you have given him flight training in both directions over that route. 61.93 b(1) and (2) on page 76 of the 2004 FARAIM
