But seriously, prop-fans were supposedly very good performers. Its amazing we don't see them. I wonder why no one was interested in them back when they initially came out? But I guess I can figure it out if I think about it.
 
I think noise, maximum speed, and complexity were the big issues. Maybe new technology can address the problems; obviously, fuel costs are the motivating factor now -- again.

That first one looks like a BE-1900 with all the crap hangin off the tail, would kinda suck if one of those suckers let loose and whacked your own tail off.(sorry double post)

I was told by a former GE engineer that one of the main problems with those engines was that the fans were a single piece of metal that extended from the engine core out into the air. The problem with this was the two temperature extremes that the metal was experiencing at the same time. He said lots of fatigue and cracks were occurring. Maybe they can remedy that problem now with some sort of composite.
 
Must be composite. I think Boeing is experimenting a lot with composites. As for flying a Muppet? Yes! I love them! Time to start concerning ourselves more with effeciency. Take THAT Airbus!

The should paint at least one like the Electric Mayhem.
 
Would Miss Piggy be the widebody variant? Gonzo would be inherently unstable?
