LONDON, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Italy's Alitalia faces last-minute negotiations with its unions on Wednesday to avert bankruptcy, underscoring turbulent times for the sector as slowing growth and an aggressive expansion by low-fare carriers force changes at traditional airlines around the world.



Following is a list of the largest airlines ranked by market capitalisation.

What's the point? All 30 of those stocks are exaclty one bad day away (knock wood) from being worthless. Sell.

This "ranking" must be looking at pax ops only.... Clearly there are other Big Dogs out there in this industry....

Market Cap as of 9/15/04:

1. UPS $83.04 Billion
2. FDX $25.76 Billion

Who cares... Really??? "size doesn't matter".... "its how you use it that does"... Applies to a lot of thing in life... Really.

I see a lot of posts from JetBlue guys basking in the "glory" of the minute... I wish them well... But as guys at United, USAir, Braniff, Pan Am, Eastern etc etc have seen... Big industry doesn't always look out for labor. Beware.... No flame intended. Just a heads up for a (JetBlue) workforce without union representation.

So, she has you believing that, huh? Ironically, Aeroflot is probably the most "stable" of any on that list.

And yes, it only includes the aisle donkey, self loading bagagge style airlines.
