It looks like World is a pretty sweet place to work. I see that you do both passengers and freight. Do you fly pax and freight in both the DC-10 and MD-11? Do most of your pilots fly both pax and freight, or is there a passenger side and freight side? What is the hiring outlook for the next 6 months to 1 year?

DogBoy,

We all fly both pax and Freight. The fleet has 2 DC -10F's and one DC-10 pax. The MD-11's are 6 freight and 8 pax.

They are getting together a class for Jan 07 is the rumor. May be for either airframe. After that is anybodys guess for hiring.........

How many of those MD-11's are owned by UPS?

I heard that World's management is going to start another alter-ego carrier called Earth Airways.

3 .....UPS bought 5 from DAL 2 are in the desert waiting for door slots and WOA is flying 3 for the next year+/- while they wait for doors...............

ups owns 3 of worlds md-11s.they will go into cargo conversions at a staggered rate.supposedly this will coincide with the introduction of the 3 747-400s that world is saying are coming.that is the plan at least, don't hold your breath, though

I agree that with the fairly new contract, World seems pretty good. Is there any proctection there for loss of aircraft over the next couple of years? How about from the transfering of World passanger contracts to North American? My only fear is the relationship between World and North American. It just seems like something that a managment could use as a wedge in the future.

What is the avg. monthly credit hours and are junior FO's flying at all, or mostly relief FOs?

If you are junior expect 65-70 hours. Many "open flyers" spend the month at home collecting guarantee (65hrs.)

The IRO is determined by seniority (the senior guy gets an extra $2.50/hr.) In reality the 2 FO's take turns doing RO duties on a trip. Landings are worked out so that everyone avoids going to the sim.

Pretty good layovers. The Lufthansa cargo run from JFK has log downtown layovers in NYC, Brussels, and Cologne.
