World Air Holdings buys private airline

[font=Times New Roman,Times,Serif]World Air Holdings Inc. has bought Jamaica, N.Y.-based North American Airlines Inc. for $35 million.

"The inclusion of North American under the umbrella of World Air Holdings diversifies our revenue mix, strengthens our customer base and builds our reputation and leadership as a premier provider of charter airline services," said Randy Martinez, CEO of Peachtree City-based World Air Holdings (NASDAQ: WLDA). "North American greatly expands our product mix in the military and commercial charter market, with its three Boeing 767 and five Boeing 757 passenger aircraft, and complements the service provided by World Airways with larger wide-body aircraft. North American provides immediate access to a fleet of mid-size aircraft, enhancing our flexibility and increasing our ability to profitably expand service in commercial markets."

North American generated more than $200 million in revenue in 2004 and has been consistently profitable. The company also has no long-term debt and its fleet of eight leased aircraft have an average age of less than seven years.

World Airways and North American will be managed independently under their respective operating certificates. North American will maintain its operational headquarters at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and World Airways will still be based in Peachtree City.

Does anyone know if they are hiring??

World is hiring on the MD-11 - something like 18 openings. Looks like the two companies will operate separately for awhile...

North American just hired 8 pilots (me one of them). I was one military guy out of one ERJ, one CRJ, and the rest Sabb people. They were talking about adding more classes but now that World is in the picture they are holding back for now. My advise is to get your app in ASAP and be on the list for the next round of interviews! It sounds like it should be soon. I heard something about 70 new hires expected! They also seem to like "overseas" experience too.

What are the mins?

That is about two months old. 90% of our flying is international. If you have the cash, we will take you where every you want to go. I have crossed both ponds, and the Indian Ocean. Great place to see the world next to the military.

MIns was 5000tt. That is all I remember. New crew of people doing the hiring, so I have no idea. As for interviewing,it all just a rumor. Send you stuff in and watch the web page www.northamericanair.com.

Thats all folks!!!!!
