World Air Holdings To Lease Boeing 747-400 Freighters
Deliveries to begin in 2008

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- World Air Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: WLDAE - News), parent company of World Airways and North American Airlines, today announced it has signed a letter of intent to lease three Boeing 747-400 Special Freighter aircraft, contingent upon approval by the lessor's board of directors. The aircraft will be converted from passenger configuration to freighters prior to delivery, with the first aircraft scheduled to be delivered in June of 2008. Additional deliveries are planned in November 2008 and May 2009. "This is a significant milestone for our company, as we have been looking for some time to expand our product offering in the growing air cargo market," said Jeff MacKinney, World Air Holdings president. "We believe the 747-400 freighter is, and will continue to be, a vital component of the international air freight market, particularly to and from markets in Asia. These aircraft will allow us to continue to build our ACMI cargo business, where we have seen solid growth and new long-term contracts with our existing MD-11 freighter fleet."
The three 747-400SF aircraft, to be leased under seven-year terms, were formerly operated by United Airlines as passenger aircraft.
World Air Holdings has three wholly owned subsidiaries, World Airways, Inc., North American Airlines, Inc., and World Risk Solutions, Ltd. World Airways is a charter passenger and cargo airline founded in 1948, North American is a charter passenger airline founded in 1989, and World Risk Solutions is an insurance subsidiary established in 2004. I think that's good news. At least that cat is out of the bag and will obviously need to be addressed in the current contract negotiations. I'm surprised the "3Ms" didn't keep this under their hat until the new contract was signed.

I'm not.

It will obviously be used by management as a carrot dangling in front of the flight crews.

Forgive my ignorance, but shouldn't a bigger airplane = a better contract for you guys. I guess I just dont get the dangling the carrot statement. Am I too old fashioned to be thinking that a bigger plane (longer legs, more cargo, more time on the road etc.) should equate to more $$$$$$ ? I hope you do get some more money, and the 400s will be a nice added bonus.

The truth is, flying bigger planes does equate to bigger $$$$$. But the question is for whom??? I'm willing to bet its not going to be the pilots. You see, there is a certain "Airline X" and "Airline Y" who fly big planes but make no where near big $$$$$. However someone is making $$$$$. Catch my drift???:smash:

Wow!! Sounds like Delta is going to be a distant third in the best job in an ATlanta based airline contest. #1)Airtran, #2) World, #3) Delta!

World has many former DAL pilot's on board, as well as Braniff, Pan Am, Eastern, US Air, TWA, NWA, ATA, EasyJet, and UAL. Not a bad place if you enjoy going to interesting locations, decent pay and job satisfaction! If we can get this contract signed without going out of business it may even get better.

Cheers!

L'il J. Seinfeld-

You forgot to use "Numberchecker".......similiar to spellchecker.

It would have corrected your post to read:

1) World
2) AirTran
3) DAL

I guess I would agree with that in hindsight. I was very impressed with World when I met the CP at the Atlanta job fair last year. It seems like a well managed company and they are making money!
