What you are probably referring to is that the military has a broad exemption against monetary suits. This was created to prevent a greiving mother from suing the Army when they order her son over the bunker.

The Federal Goverment has to abide by the same laws as the citizans...and injuctions against federal agencies are quite common. Jose Padilla was a case against the justice department.

As far as $$$....do you remember linda trip (Monica Lewinski's buddy)? She sued the DOD for violation of the privacy act and was awarded around 400K.

As far as this woman's award...I agree it probably won't see the appeal. More than likely SWA will up its settlement offer as a result of this verdict. And while she may not recive 28 Mill...she will get a nice reward.

Technically, any time you attempt to sue anyone at any level of court system or attempt as a prosecutor to get criminal charges brought before a judge, you have to ask nicely first. That's what initial court procedure is all about.

If you didn't see the video that was part of that CFI who got busted for attempting to meet a 14 year old for sex, by flying into Marshfield Mass, you missed the part where they showed the prosecutor asking the judge to hear the case based on evidence the prosecutor possessed on the incident. Yes, the prosecutor was nicely asking the judge to hear the trial.

For those (few) who care...You can only sue the gov't for what they say you can sue them for. The gov't enjoys "sovereign immunity” which prohibits its citizens from suing. Under the Federal Tort Claims Act (and similar state acts) the gov’t has permitted itself to be sued for certain specific things, but not nearly all the stuff you can sue … say McDonald’s … for. The “Ferris Doctrine” which covers the “can’t sue the military” issue is another thing altogether.

Speaking of the McD’s coffee case. Those who tout that as a case of the legal system run amok fail to mention that Mc D’s was serving coffee at a temperature that causes 2nd and 3d degree burns to human flesh in under four seconds. They knew that, but made a “business decision” that it was cheaper to keep doing that and pay out burn claims than to reduce the temp of their coffee (???). The jury verdict (which took into account the plaintiff’s contributory stupidity), represented only 2 days worth of Mc D’s coffee sales.

I am tired of depressed fares industry wide in order to keep pace with Southworst.

There seems to be no middle ground on fares. If you buy 14 days in advance you get less than 200 buck fares roundtrip nationwide. If you buy less than 14 days out you are paying 500 to 1000. It makes no sense.

As far as the iranian, they oughta throw her down there in gitmo. Then we can get all the human rights libs off our backs by saying hey, now at least they can get some ass.
