Has anyone been successful or heard of anyone getting these funds for a Type in the state of KY?

I am not sure if there are any schools in KY that offer type certificates.

Does anyone know if the WIA funds in one state can be used in a different state. For instance, receiving the funds in KY to get a type in Texas?

I have looked through many of the threads on here about the WIA program, but this has not been addressed.

Yeah, they don't show up on the approved provider list, but that doesn't really mean anything. I wonder what they charge for a PIC type in a 200 or 700.

Thanks

Currently unemployed and working with the state of KY on the use of WIA funds. You can get WIA funds for type ratings in some states, but the problem with KY is that there isn't really anywhere within the state that provides them.

Was looking at a Type though flight Saftey, or even just an ATP through ALL ATPs in Bowling Green, KY if the gov is willing to pay for it. I currently do not hold an ATP.

get something that will help you get a future non regional job! I am sure you can find a Lear, Citation, 737 places with out a problem. The CRJ, ERJ is a dying breed with a billion pilots that hold that type.

That is the problem. Try finding a place to get typed in KY. I can't find any.

I just got a call back from a WIA specialist in NKY and she says that the only aviation related program for WIA funds is the Aircraft Dispatcher course at Airline Ground Schools in Florence, KY.

If I get unemployment, and it's free to take the class, I guess that couldn't hurt. Thoughts?

Airlines are not the only companies that use dispatchers. There are large corporate departments that use them as well. Could be a foot in the door to a job flying a corporate jet.

If it's at no cost than why not? You never know who you will meet. I am often amazed at what happens when you step off the path and try something new.

I wish you the best!

Cheers- Rum

I agree. Thanks for the upbeat and positive feedback!

A crj type (and the fact you are in the regional section) would most likely mean you would be heading toward a job with the regionals.

It would not be too hard to find a dispatcher job that pays more than a regional f/o.

I say go for it! Even if you get into flying later...it will be great experience and you will always have something to fall back on (furlough, loss of 1st class medical, etc).

Believe it or not, I have already done 5 years as an FO at the regionals. I took a buyout because I didn't like the direction that my company was heading(OH). Now I am just trying to improve my resume.

The GOVT does not pay for anything........TAXPAYERS DO! That means you, Through the folks that have and are legally able to use guns TAKE money from your neighbors and give it to you?????(before you go off on the WELL I PAYED INTO IT tangent, maybe you should start there and get pissed that you were FORCED too!) If your gonna take from me then at least give credit where it is due! I wish they would teach this in school, but then if they did folks might wake up and get pissed off!

What a ridiculous argument...

The tax money you paid, like it or not, is GONE. It can be used to help somebody to better themselves, or it can be used for another pork-barrel project or social welfare program...it sure as hell ain't being used to pay down our deficit and DEFINITELY isn't going to be refunded to the taxpayers.

I've got no beef with somebody utilizing a program they're entitled to use...
