Perhaps because other countries came to the conclusion that a measuring system based on the dimension of the limbs of a dead monarch was a silly Idea, I tend to agree.

Doesn't matter what you base it on or what you call it as long as everyone who produces/uses measuring devices has the same standards/calibration.

I think a lot of other countries (especially in Europe) do a whole bunch of stuff becuase they feel inadaquate and just HAVE to do something different...

QFE is still used in some areas, Dalian China is an example
