Military pilots are definitely better at formation flying and dropping bombs. Unfortunately, not a lot of that happens at the airlines. Regional pilots usually have "one up" on Military pilots initially because they already understand airline operations (calling inrange to Ops, understanding trip pairings and bidding, etc), but the Legacies like Military pilots because most have skill enough to complete years in rigorous tours and have made it through the vetting process. They will usually be hired first. But thanks to the Military pull down in the last decade and more drone flying, there aren't as many out there.

and have I have said before the military guys are on the top of resume piles at ever airline, every airline has the same guys. When these are skimmed off those piles, we will not see as many military pilots being hired. A skilled pilot is a skilled pilot, experienced 121 pilots don't fly formation, or work with an E-2 for directions, but they could learn with a little training. The same applies for a person learning 121, it is just another training evolution.

As far as being "stuck up", not my experience, although a certain amount of confidence may be mistaken for elitism.

As far as dropping bombs, there are a lot of 121 pilots who would have trouble with this because they are not in the shape it takes to pull 5-6 G's. The fitness standards for the active military pilots far exceed those of the civilian world. Not to say there are not civilian pilots who are in great shape, but there are many who would never pass an annual PT test.

Hey civilians, get in line behind us military guys...you all are inferior to us. I am the mostest bestest pilot in the WORLD and am superior to all civilian pilots in every way. I am better looking than any of you all. I am smart and have a rapist wit. I attend the owl society charity events to stare at the hooters. There are some nice hooters there I tell ya. I can program the MCDU and eat my first class crew meal AT THE SAME TIME. Also, in case anyone missed it the first time, My johnson is ginormous! Ha, take that.

Weirdo......

Get over it, the airlines know this if you do not, the college degreed is nearly universal when it comes to training sucess. That is why they hire them. This not true of high schoolbackground pilots. It is a known brand name as opposed to a generic.

Fixed it for ya.

Why fight the system? Join the CAP or volunteer as a big brother or habitat for humanity etc. HR will not change the process for now so why fight it. Do whatever you can to move youselves up the resume stack.

Bubba is an excellent example of the military mindset that permeates the majors these days. It seems like he literally cannot accept or understand that someone else might be better and have far more applicable experience.

Sure I can accept AND understand. I've said that, again and again. I guess you don't even read the posts that you actually respond to. Again I'll say (and just for you, Maru, because I know that comprehension isn't your strong suit), that it doesn't matter where you get your training; it's experience that counts. Initial military flight experience is better than initial civilian flight experience, but after thousands of hours, it really doesn't matter. That's why military-trained guys have an overall edge in relatively low total hour applicants.

After that, it's all about basic skill sets, experience, and of course, attitude.

Do you get it now?--now that I've repeated for the tenth time?

Please reread my comments, and note again my judicious use of words like "some military pilots" "some commenters", etc.

Only a person with a persecution complex would assume that I was insinuating a majority of military pilots were exhibiting these attributes.

Was I not the one that said that if I could only know one fact about a pilot, I would probably pick a military pilot over civilian?

My comments are directed to those who have an unbelievably defensive attitude about military training. I would be even more derisive to anyone who thinks that civilian pilots are automatically better (thinking of someone in particular here).

All things equal, I would probably pick a very high time regional pilot over a low time military pilot. But that is all about EXPERIENCE, rather than training or pedigree.

I've read your comments several times, and I actually think you're one of the more reasonable voices on this subject. In fact, your last paragraph is exactly, and nearly word for word, what I have said.

However, please re-read what -I- wrote. I was really only speaking to your "creating tribalism" comments. Seriously, Livin', who's really creating this tribalism? The guy who responds to provocation, or the guy who picks the fight in the first place? Do you really not notice that these pissing contest threads are always started by civilian-trained guys, whining about how many military pilots are being hired? Have you ever seen a military-trained guy whine about how many civilian pilots are being hired, even knowing that more than half of most airlines' pilots are? Seriously?

In reality, Livin', most pilots couldn't give a crap where the guy flying with him got his training...as long as he has sufficient experience, is competent, and is not a d1ck (and hopefully has interesting things to talk about for long flights). There's a few military-trained guys who are asses of course, but there's a few civilian-trained guys who are asses as well. And of course there's a few civilian-trained guys with inferiority complexes who can't help themselves from bitching and whining about military guys, and how "unfair" airline hiring standards are to them. They're the ones who create these "us versus them" bitchfests on FI and other forums; they're the ones promoting tribalism. Every......single......time.

Did you mean a "rapier wit"? Because if you really have a "rapist wit," I don't think I want to be within a dozen yards of you. Man, no wonder why the flight attendants never visit you! :)
