Pick and choose your battles.
Hi!
If it's a widespread practice at a company, they SHOULD pay something per month to the captains that use their phones.
A lot of companies (including USA Jet) provide phones to the captain. Others give the captains a certain amount per month to cover business use of their personal phones.
Some people have unlimited minutes, so it doesn't matter in that case.

LOL. I hate it when Funerals get ruined. I guess I meant missed![]()
I'd rather a go to a funeral than a wedding. At least I know the person in the box is better off than the poor dude getting hitched...LOL. I hate it when Funerals get ruined. I guess I meant missed![]()

I write off 50% of my cellphone bill. Not that I use it a bunch while at work, rather I need it to be contactable while on call and to check in.
And you make a killing, at $63k a year flying that "lil guppy" around.I assume every minute on the cell phone with the company on a weekday is an "overage" minute, billed to me at 40 cents/minute. I seek compensation by taxiing slowly/flying slowly, which I bill them at $1.25/minute. I get the passengers to their destination more quickly than if I left the aircraft to use a pay phone, and I profit at a rate of 65 cents/minute. Of course, this method only works if you have block or better.
DXRick-
Did you ever answer my question....
if a regional pilot was to be ALPA President, should he get a blend of major airline pilot pay (status quo) or a blend of regional pilot pay?
Who uses their cellphone in the cockpit to contact dispatch, scheduling, or maintenance?
Why do it if they are paying you for your minutes. Use what they have provided you.
If that means return to gate because ACARS is inop, do it!
Don't give them anything for free, because they sure as hell don't give us anything free!
I don't think an airline is going to go under if pilots don't use thier cell phones.
No, but that was not what I said. Going back to the gate repeatedly to communicate instead of using your cell phone will have a negative effect on the company over time if everybody did it.
Just thinking about that commercial still gets under my skin.I use my iPhone to check the weather and inform dispatch of changes at the destination city. Speeds thing up immensely.
Have you had enough flight experience yet Metro to have gone as far as Portland Maine ?????? haha

"Repeatedly" isn't really accurate. It's a very rare occurrence. Most of the time you can get in touch with the company via ACARS or AIRINC. It's only at remote stations or when AIRINC repeaters are down that you can't get in touch with the company.
