just curious for you airline guys that go through this all the time, do they let you keep your nail clippers/personal grooming products/razors?
QUOTE]

IF, and that's a big IF, they find them, they may sometimes confiscate them.

About 2 years ago, I forgot that I had illegal nail clippers in my bag (you know, the kind with the extremely deadly pointed nail file on it). They must have been in there for three months before I found them (put them in there for a long road trip then forgot about them - I guess the TSA was the last thing I was considering). During those three months I usually wasn't asked about anything in my luggage while going through screening. However, I was once questioned about the excessive number of batteries in my company-issued flashlight (no kidding - I couldn't make that up!). So I asked the highly trained terror-sniffing gumshoe, "exactly how excessive is the number 2?" Realizing how stupid his point was, he let me go through with my flashlight and my al-qaeda sponsored nail clippers.

I'm curious to know if there are any TSA "Professionals" lurking on this board. I'd love to hear their perspective on the government backed goat-rope that they supply to us every day.

Here's a million dollar idea!
I'll load up my Aztruck with 1,000's of nail clippers and lighters, and other assorted "weapons" and sell them to all the poor b*stards who got screwed in the security line. TSA is a crock!

I will be the shady guy who can fly 900 pounds of stuff into any airport in the US without going through any security. WTF folks? The whole security issue is just another progam so that someone in the government can pass money to supporters and relatives.
But hell, I'm just a freightdog, what do I know?

Excellent point..

Our airline 121 securtiy is such a farce.....

FFDO's cant stop C-4, and neither can TSA

I love all of these stories. My dad worked for TSA and you guys you think you have it rough. People are constantly yelling at them. Look at all of these stories and add the other millions of passengers. Do you actually think they like working there? Here in SLC the 13 dollars they make an hour is good money. Yes some of them are not the smartest but some of the have high level degrees. I would say more then half are looking for other jobs. Just remember they are trying to raise a family just like everyone else. There not trying to make your life miserable there just doing there job.

Try SJU on for size

If you guys think that you have it bad try going to San Juan. 95% of our flights have us going through customs, and every time you go through customs you go through security. Also, did I mention that all the food establishments are outside of security. So every time you do a turn or get food it means going through security. It is common to go through security 5-6 times every day on a 4 day trip. To top it off the PR TSA is a joke. I have never seen more people standing around doing nothing in all my life. One TSA person usually just stands around and yells at everyone in spanish to take off their shoes. Also take into account that it is the only airport I have ever seen that does not have an employee line, so you can only imagine the cluster F that it causes. All this is almost comical, except when trying to get through customs, then security after your last turn on a 4 day to catch your last flight of the day home at 5pm.

Looks like TSA DOES make more than pilots.

Speak for your own airline aca. Either you really work for a cheesy airline where TSA makes more than you or you are some idiot trying to skew the facts. Either way we all know that a TSA career doesn't out earn a regional airline career. Yes, maybe a high local TSA screener might make more than some 1st or 2nd year FO's, but thats about it. I know that I along with about 7/8 of the FO's I fly with EASILY out earn the TSA by far. Time for you to find a new job or airline aca.

I'm not at ACA anymore, and ashamed to say that as long as I am an FO at my present airline, at ANY longevity, even in the ERJ, I will always make less than a TSA screener. BTW, I too know a few of them. Screwy aint it?

I think flying with the a$$holes that give the TSA employees a hard time is much worse then any 5 minutes that I spend going through security.

AMEN!!!! See it WAY to often.

I don't think it's as bad as all that. They've always been pretty ok with me. Now, granted, I'm not a 121 pilot, so maybe they snap at the epaulets or something.

Having said that, I realize that the security system has a lot of holes in it, but that's not the fault of the poor sucker at the x-ray machine. He's just doing a job. I will say that right after 9/11, being a young, maybe-kind-of-possibly-middle-eastern-looking (I'm greek and black irish) dude travelling alone on a one way ticket (ferry work) and getting pulled over for extra security checks felt GOOD.

Government always solves problems inefficiently, and often not at all, but perception is important too. I'll gladly take off the cowboy boots every day if it means those assholes have to think one iota harder about how to kill us.

Why in the world does it take TWO TSAers to guard the 8' wide checkpoint exit in the SLC Delta terminal????

TSA will out earn a pilot in a second if they are management. BIG TIME...

You guys want to hear a good one. In Lincoln, Nebraska it is not good enough to have just your badges and your uniform on to get through security. They make you go down and get a paper ticket just like all the other passengers before you can through them. Get this too I have been going though them for months now and the other day they said you might want to take off your shoes. These are the same people that I have beem getting screened by for months. Well I told them it will not set off the machine and it did'nt. From that I got the wand game even though I did'nt set it off.
Chock that one up!!!

tsa really does suck . there was a hot young tsa chick working her first day on the job and when i volunteered to help her practice her deep cavity body searches she got all offended !!! what a skank beast. i'm fed up with these know it alls!!!!!

Just go to the other side of the airport they wont search you if your flying cargo, our bags etc are not searched. What a double standard of the TSA its just another incident that is going to happen.
