Hi everyone. I have a question about multiengine time and its importance in finding a job. First I would like you to compare two different packages that I am considering, then I will ask my question:

Package 1
Package 2

Ok, now that you've looked at those two links, here's what I am wondering. I talked to a guy who had gone to the same flight school as this, and I told him that I was interested in the more expensive, more ME time package. He said no, don't do it!! Save your money. Don't get ME time until you either need it for a job or for a rating. Is his advice good advice? Should I borrow the $5,000 difference and get the ~48 hrs ME time or should I do what he says, pay $5,000 less, and only have enough time to get me through my commercial rating (approx. 16 hrs multi)? Which package would you choose if you were starting all over again with aspirations of an (eventual) professional pilot career? Either one of these, or the one in the middle of the two (added on to this package is multi instructor and IFR training in a seminole)?

If you can find a way to get more multi PIC for the same amount of money, then do the one with that will only get you with the least amount of multi time. You may be able to get more for your money buying time in a plane instead of buying time in the plane and payign for an instructor.
The best thing to do really is to get all your ratings, including MEI, and then if you have extra money to spend, buy some multi time and go on cool IFR cross countries with a friend, split the cost, and log more valuable PIC.

I have never seen that they quarantee the total costs and they give u housing also how is this housing deal can u give me more info? I need to join something like this soon but still dont know where to go I guess I could put some 45k ,

sure commander. give jerry personius a call next week, he'd love to talk to ya. nice guy. they have loans for the $45,000 price tag through key bank, and from what i can see, if you have a pulse, you'll be approved by key. check out their webpage at www.flymfs.com. it's mazzei (MAY-zee) flying service out of fresno, CA. i haven't started yet, i am leaving at 2 pm today to head to CA and visit it. i'll let you know on tuesday how it went. it used to be a family owned deal, i think. but you don't have all the crap like you do with delta connection, pan am, mesa, etc. there's no hype, no "guaranteed" interview, nothing like that. just no nonsense, safe teaching techniques. if you have any more questions, PM me and i'll see if i can answer them. obviously, my knowledge is limited since i haven't started there yet. or better yet, do a search on this forum for "mazzei" and see what comes up.

Choose a training program in which you earn as much multi PIC as possible. That way, you get an excellent head start on building the multi time you need for the regionals. These days, some regionals hire with 200 or less of multi, so getting the rest after training is not as tough as it used to be, and easier still if you earned a lot of it during training.

In fact, you might consider a program that earns you your Commercial-Instrument first as a multiengine pilot and your initial CFI as an MEI and/or CFI-I. That way, you really maximize the value of your training dollars.

Good luck with your training.

Save your $'s

Why on earth would you want to spend that much cash for so little multi time??????? Multi time is golden.

Check out Ari-Ben Aviator in Florida. Their cost of $33,900 includes a minimum of 200 hours multi time in the Beechcraft Duchess (no sim), and then a little single time for the commercial single and CFII ratings. Did I mention this includes housing for 3 months? When you finish the program, you have the opportunity to instruct there. After a year of instructing you can figure on having roughly 800 multi hours and 150-200 single.

How do I know? I was one of their projects. PM me if you have any questions or just call them.

but luftpost, how much of that 200 hours multi time is PIC? any of it? if mazzei sounds too good to be true, then ari-ben aviator is unreal. i'll PM you when i get back. it just seems that if you have 250TT when you're done, and 200 of that is multi, you have barely gotten any single engine experience before they throw you into the multi program. i mean, i'd feel more nervous flying a 172 than a duchess at that point.

Well, after you get your multi private (10-15 hours), the rest is pic.

 Really??

I never said that Mazzei sounds too good to be true. In fact money can be spent much more wisely. See link in my post above.

When I got hired to fly what I fly now, it wasn't because of my lack of single time.

Multi PIC is money in the bank any way you look at it. However, if you have say 200-300 multi, you better make sure that half of that is in the last 6 months prior to a regional interview. They want CURRENT multi time, so you may want to think about waiting until you get your total time slightly higher.

Just an opinion, and you know how those are.

If it were me, I'd take the quickest/cheapest route to getting my MEI. Don't bother spending your money to log multi-time. After you get your MEI, get an instructing job and let someone pay YOU for your time! The less hours you have to pay for the better.

Been to Aviator in FT Pierce. It was a good program...and you WILL learn real multi Flying...I went on the 65 dollar an hours time builder and it was kewl....florida is hot and sticky and you learn alot about weather...REAL TIME...lol
the housing is far above the average crash pad and very affordable................................BUT there are a lot of distractions and THEY do NOT baby sit your ass to make sure you get done...it takes large amounts of discipline to stay focused!
