Flybet3 said:If you were a 22 year old pilot, with a Lear Jet type rating and had the following chances of employment:
1- Fly SIC in a Lear Jet under 135 (cargo) with a chance to upgrade in a year or so. Salary between 28K-32K a year, 10 days on 4 days off, full benefits.
How many guys have had the "chance thing" dangled in front of them to keep them somewhere??? Hate the schedule.
2- Fly PIC in a EMB-110 for a cargo op, make 28k a year, full benefits, flying 4 or 5 days a weeks depending on the route.
Some airlines require your PIC turbine to be in an A/c over 20000 pounds, If you dream of a particular airline, You better check there minimums now (of course they could change tomorrow.)
3- Fly SIC in a Lear Jet under 135 (Air ambulance) no word on the upgrade time, 5 days on 2 days off, full benefits.
Benefits can sometimes outweigh additional pay, Being 22 years old, you probably are not worried about it, if you are single.
4- Fly PIC in a BE99, make 28K a year, full benefits, 5 day route, full benefits.
See Emb -110, But I'd take the 99 over it only because I flew them in the "Good OLd Days." I think I liked it only because it was my first "Real" flying job and how fun it was.
The night we ferried back empty and created the Vomit Comet, floating the Deadheaders in the back and them having a few too many beers and Potato chips, One guy filling up the potato chip bag and opening the hatch and throwing it out and the bag hung on the Tail and the "Soup" all over the side of the airplane. I hated cleaning that dang thing the next day but I'd do it all over again if given the chance. Ok somebody wake me up now!!!
That's the problem, Everyone's in such a hurry to get their hours, to get their first Airline Job, to Upgrade to Captain and then sit there forever waiting on a "real" Airline to call them, that they get miserable...Live life to the fullest, today could be your last.
Back to the Bene's....Don't get caught with your pants down on this one....I have seen too many guys get hung out to dry because they thought they were young and invincible or they could make until the Insurance kicked in at their new job....Don't take the chance, Enjoy yourself, Start planning for retirement now (on your own) and it won't matter how many places you worked that got sold , went out of business, Sold the company airplane whatever.
Good Luck!
which one would you chose and why?
