Frontier May Seek Marketing Deal With Major Airline

Frontier Airlines, a unit of Republic Airways Holdings Inc., may seek a marketing agreement with a major carrier as industry collaboration expands, Republic Chief Executive Officer Bryan Bedford said.

Bedford declined to offer specifics in a telephone interview today or say whether Frontier already is in talks. Airlines use marketing agreements to extend the reach of their route systems, reaping some of the benefits of a merger without the risks.

“We do believe there is a low-cost opportunity where, frankly, we think Frontier could help some of our network partners,” Bedford said. “It’s premature to speculate on who and what that would be.”

Network carriers often use regional airlines such as Republic’s Chautauqua and Shuttle America to funnel passengers from smaller cities into multiple hub airports. Republic added Frontier and Midwest Air Group Inc., which primarily fly out of Denver and Milwaukee, last year.

“The Republic management team has made no secret of the fact they’d do a deal with somebody and they’d be happy about it,” Helane Becker, an analyst with Dahlman Rose & Co. in New York, said in an interview. “It would make total sense if they did something like that in Denver with United or Southwest.”

Frontier competes in Denver primarily with Southwest Airlines Co. and United Airlines, a unit of United Continental Holdings Inc.

‘Fares Already Cut’

AMR Corp.’s American Airlines and JetBlue Airways Corp. agreed in March to a partnership that gives American passengers flying into New York’s Kennedy airport access to JetBlue flights to Boston and beyond.

Hawaiian Airlines Inc. signed a code-share, or marketing, agreement, in September with Delta Air Lines Inc., the second- biggest U.S. carrier. Alaska Air Group Inc. said last month it was expanding a code-share with American on flights between the U.S. West Coast and Mexico.

“It doesn’t have to be consolidation,” Bedford said of changes in the airline industry. “There are other options we are seeing in terms of collaboration.”

Republic is focusing on completing the integration of Frontier and Midwest into one carrier during the next five months. Bedford said he isn’t worried about increased competition from Southwest, the largest low-fare carrier, as it combines with AirTran Holdings Inc.

“Everywhere we fly against those guys, the fares have already been cut,” he said. “Whether we’re competing against two airlines or one bigger Southwest, I don’t really think that changes the market dynamics that much.”

Republic fell 22 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $8.41 at 4 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. The shares have risen about 14 percent this year.

After ALPA comes onto property at Jetblue, management will farm our E-190s to RAH. After all, to be competitive, how many majors want their own pilots flying RJs? Those that have owned some are starting to see the light of the RAHs and Skywests who can and do the flying of 70, 90, and 100 seat jets for much, much, less...

Ever heard of a Scope clause? Personally, I think Bedford has realized he is in WAY over his head and needs a lifeline. I feel really bad for the Frontier and Midwest guys. RAH guys...not so much.

Why not? Remember, there are more than a few of us who have been against these acquisitions from the word "go."

This a steep cliff.

I see the other majors locking them out because of the Republic feed. I see the feed going bye bye when the contracts are up...not a good place to be.

Every time you post your lack of experience shows. If you think the 190 is an RJ then you need to study up on the industry. All your post focus on yourself and serve to only spread fear.

.,,and the 320. I say the quicker the better.

That's true. And I'll bet a nickel that the F9 boys would like an opportunity for a redo.

Honestly, I do to.

Gup
Probably need to qualify that statement. I would bet the bottom 75% of the F9 list would like a redo tomorrow. The top 25% of the F9 list won't understand until a bunch of Frontier airplanes are parked after Bedford runs out of cash and has to take RJET Chapter 7.

Concerning all of the bets about what you believe us F9 FO's *think*, I'll take all comers.

Welcome to the world of having management decide your fate, and the process of sifting through the ashes to find whatever positives you can cling to. Depsite what the haters think, I have found quite a few things to be optimistic about in the last year, but we all know happiness and optimism make for lousy subject matter here.

So instead... Ill just say - (Consolidation) Misery loves company. Welcome to the party guys.

Republic can go F%$k themselves. I feel for the F9 guys but I'd like to see Bedford fail miserably(ducking,.,,., as Karma is a bit@h)..

Dont feel bad for us. Our Union and the majority of pilots at our airline were pro-RAH!...

Dont ask me, I never understood it and I am still confused about the pro-RAH campaign.

Animal, i think the universe has a unique way of working itself out. If you would have gladly accepted a SWA staple instead of staying here, then that option has potential. SWA is emptying the pool as we speak, and Airtran might still squeak some classes in pre-merger. Life is too short to work at a job you hate (as evidenced by some of our senior moms...). I wish you the best of luck.

RAH will fly Jetblue E190s? For sure they can do it cheaper than Jetblue can. Any scope protection at Jetblue?

READ THIS CAREFULLY...OK......RAH WILL NEVER FLY JB E 190's....WHY?

JB would have to furlough 600 Pilots who all hold a employment agreement that pay then 75 hr a month at their current rate for one year. That $4.5 million per month and in Cobra and some additional money and law suits and its north of 100 million.....now the CASM on those E190's just went up by 40%....NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!

Thanks buddy! For the record, a SWA staple would have been 10 million times better than a RAH buyout. Even if the staple caused me to get furloughed, I would have gladly taken SWA.

Its too late to dream now of what could have been. But it is bitter sweet to sit here and look at the demise of F9, piece by piece. Because the minute RAH bought F9, I grieved and put to sleep my beloved F9. Now, all we are is a cheap "shell" being operated by a confused mngmt team. It is agonizing to see such a wonderful place be transformed to a "slave labor" outfit.

Good luck!

You beat me to it.

PLUS

It'd be brand suicide. For what we..JB..and the Forrest Hill'ers try to do and build...it's not something you 'farm out'.

Also, as a side note...the 190 isn't the black sheep it once was. I haven't had a major break in well over a year. I was in the JFK crew lounge when two...say again...two 320s went down hard at the same time. Everyone still has a bad taste in their mouths from our early days with it...

anyway...back on course...

RAH will NEVER fly a JB plane. I don't know what they're going to do in the next few years when the contracts with the legacy fellas are up.

I can see it now. DAL getting an crazy deal on all of those C-Series jets that RJET put orders in for. They do not get their deposits back.

No one wants RJET. NO ONE. They whizzed in to many airlines Cheerios for that. Some poor SOB may take them on but I do not bet on it. Jerry was very smart to keep his head down when BB started all of this stuff.

I am watching it. I love his mansion. That is what he created and that is what he has, hopefully he did it honestly, lol. I chose to be an airline pilot knowing that I wont have a mansion that BIG. That is fine. If you want a mansion, WORK HARD and get it.

Honesty is a good thing in this world. CEOs should have BIG MANSIONS and TONS of MONEY. If they are honest, and provide a profitable enterprise for the shareholders, while taking care of the people who actually RUN THE BUSINESS.

With that being said, there is Something about this man I dont trust.

BTW, did you notice how BIG HIS EYE BAGS WHERE?\\

Are you on DRUGS, GarAnimal Tale????

I'm all for doing what you want with your own $, but you really think HE worked "hard" for that?

Lots of Airline Pilots work hard and DON'T come anywhere NEAR getting a mansion like that (a McMini"mansion" if they are lucky, but No).

Their hard work goes to pay the college funds for Mr. fake mega church pseudo-'Christian' 's 40 kids.

Serious Stockholm syndrome you have going on there working for nothing for him...but then, I see your attitude also in those who have military funds coming in and don't see it as a career anymore.

***edited to add I just saw your other post and realized I missed your SARCASM (they really need a font for that, I glaed over 3/4 the way through the post, like WTF?)...holy heck I thought that was off***
----------------------

Pathetic.

This country is looking more & more like India everyday. I'll bet they are outsourcing to US now.

Chill out. I AGREE WITH YOU 100%!!! BB is a pathetic, elitist. I was agreeing with you. However, in this world you shouldnt be pissed off at people because they have done better than you. You should be pissed off at people who appear to have cheated their way to the top.<--And you believe in the same thing.

Voice of Reason, You know, I do not trust BB. You also know that I think RAH is a pathetic airline. By now you should know my disdain for con artists and liars.
