Any body know what has happened to our AK friend? seems a little late in the year for him to be snowed out in the wilderness somewhere...i'm starting to miss his oh so funny comments...

Don't know. I fed him a fat New York steak for the first official Bar-B-Cue of the Alaska season a couple of weeks ago and he looked healthy enough. Perhaps he is busy tying flies or even getting some of them wet. Or it could be another self-imposed flightinfo.com hiatus, a thought which has been tempting me lately. This place is 10% enlightening, 60% frustrating, and 30% a waste of time. It's hard to turn on the computer during an Alaska summer, unless of course you are stuck in a hotel in Reno...

Singlecoil

Some of us are still waiting for summer to start in our part of AK. Was in FAI for a couple of hours last week and was amazed to see green stuff growing out of the ground.

As for MAR, haven't heard him on the radio in a while, hopefully he's sitting reserve with a fly rod in hand.

Sounds a lot like the Slope. I never flew there, but I will never forget the Fourth of July in Nome when I could see my breath. That severely bummed me out, but then you drive 8 miles to Dexter and it is sunny and 70. Wherever you are, the leaves turned green in ANC about 2 weeks ago, so they can't be far behind where you are.

Where's Waldo?

I've wondered about Mar lately too......

Maybe if we can all clap our hands together real hard to show that we believe in Mar, then maybe he'll come back!

Hmmm. Italy, with sunshine, pasta, and european women on nude beaches, or a newly green Fairbanks where you can still see your breath in the morning. Doesen't sound like much of a decision to me!

Ciao!

I'm pretty sure if he's in Italy that he has no intention to turn on a computer, let alone visit flightinfo. I'm with singlecoil: too much religious, political and nonsense stuff on this board. I haven't looked much over the past 3 month, and when I do I just haven't missed much.

Bella Italia!

God what a trip!

I can't find the words...

Four days in Rome and six days in a tiny village whose name I will never utter in a public forum.

If some hack-job travel writer ever stumbles into this town and writes a Ten Best Italian Get-Away article I swear he'll be wearing a Sicilian Bow Tie and find himself swimmin' wit da fishes, see?

I just cannot begin to describe the warmth and generosity of the people I met.

Thanks for checking up on me Jmmmttttccccc!

I hope your summer is off to as good a start as mine. Now if I can just find my fishing pole...

Glad to hear you had fun, how was the wine? I love Italian wine. They were making it centuries before the foo foo Frenchies.

Thanks and nice job by the way.

I don't know if you were the straw that broke the camel's back but I'll give you a pat on yours for getting the "Political Forum" going.

I think most of us are guilty for indulging ourselves in some political match of wits but this site was almost becoming a platform for some to spout their agendas.

It's really too bad to see that I didn't miss much while I was gone. And the wine, how shall I put this, runs like water in Italy and it's cheaper than water too.

Saluti.

I'll take credit for it, even though it probably wasn't me alone, everyone has thought that we needed this forum for a long time.;)

Welcome back to "gods country" Mar! (And no, I'm not trying to start a political/religious/interminably boring thread)

Looks like you got back just in time for thunderstorm season! Too bad I might be abandoning northern Alaska soon. And I guess I'll have to get busy on the tour you promised before I head out.

Mar, i never knew you were a fly-fisherman, i actually wanted to start a thread in the NON AVIATION RELATED board on this very topic...as a matter of fact i'll do just that...i'm proud to hear that you tie, i tie all my own from steelhead streamers, nymphs and midges, drys, and spin my own bass bugs...the only thing that would disapoint me is if i find you're a "loyal" orvis user...piss on orvis, fish SAGE...

Oh the shame of it all.

Jmmmtttcccc---I don't know how to break this to you.

<thinking to self: Maybe I should just let him believe...>

I.
Don't.

There. I said it.

Singlecoil was just being generous, as usual.

But if you're really into the bait vs. fly fishing debate (plus a little philosophy on the side) I'd recommend a book called The River Why by David James Duncan. Maybe you've already read it.

As far as Orvis goes, well, you know what? I'm a pilot, I can't afford that crap. But man, every summer there's a whole squad of Indiana Jones look-a-likes sporting the fedora and olive green threads with brand-new not even broken in $250 Asolo boots and tons of Orvis paraphenalia.

HAL--The offer's still open. PM me anytime.

Look out up there guys. I can tell you for a fact that UPS has been shipping a TON of Cabela's boxes to Fairbanks of late. There will be more new plastic waders in the streams than you can shake a stick at.

The Indiana-Jones looke alikes are on their way...

Too bad I'm allergic to fish. I'm half tempted to go on out there with a rod, and put no bait on it. I mean, they call it "fishing," not "catching" right?

Dan
