A friend of mine is trying to set up an Ambulance Flight Deptartment in Asia for a hospital. He is looking for a LEAR 25. Where would he has to ge to lease such an aircraft? He already has a contract for 175 hours for aircraft use. Thanks a lot.

First just about anyone who has a 25 will do just about anything to get rid of the ones they have. There are several companies out there that lease that size of aircraft. But be careful there, many of them are one jump ahead of the scrap yard. I have seen a few lease aircraft, and by that I mean aircraft that are only leased out by the owner, not operated, something like rental cars, that are flying violations. And they tend to be expensive to operate due to all the maintenance you have to do.

Considering that price of aircraft right now, I personally would look more toward purchasing. The rates are so low right now that you can own cheaper than lease. Further more considering the area you are in, a 35 or 36 would be a much better option. They would give your friend much more flexability.

Rick, thanks for your input. Actually, my friend in Asia is one of my students. I just prepared him to become a CFI. Myself, I am a CFI/II/MEI with an ATP, stuck at my Instructor job.
I have much more experience than he has, but he has better contacts.
Do you think that the Lear 35 would be the ideal aircraft for an Air Ambulance operation?

I think you should consider the 35, for all of the reasons above, and the fact that there is no RVSM STC for the 25's yet.

Most of the 25's I have seen in the past year are clearly in the "junk" category. There ARE many good 35's on the market.
