What is the best scale to buy or place to buy some military planes for a kids gift. A little larger than matchbox but smaller than 1:72 so they will fit on his book case.

Not the expensive wooden type but the metal type less than $20 that has realistice landing gear if possible. Some of the cheaper ones have gigantic wheels that are bigger than the plane.

Thanks for any help.

The Ertl "Jet Tran" series is exactly what you are describing. They don't make them anymore, but I'm sure you can pick them up off of ebay.
