Watching dvds can be a bad idea if you end up laughing too hard to talk to ATC.

The PSP vs. Pax is funny.

One of the dumbest statements ever posted on the forum. There is a reason that there are two pilots...it's so one can back the other one and listening to the radio sort'a eliminates that check and balance. F^kn amazing!

How is that adumb, let alone, the dumbest statement? He just stated that he, like many of the other people on this thread, listens to the radio. However, unlike everyone else, he makes a point to only listen when his primary responisbility isn't listening for ATC. That does not mean that he doesn't listen to ATC or whatever other meaning you inferred from the post. Your "dumbest statements" response kind of loops right back at you in the context of this thread...

Don't think so.

Anybody defending a pilot in the seat tuning out 'cause the other guy is doing the radio don't have a clue.

If I have to explain any further...

Usually everything is ok with me except that time when the other guy brought out a fake blow up girl and began to perform some nasty things to it. I felt, just....uncomfortable and yet curious. I had to put my foot down and tell this person to please stow your blow up mate. He continued to fornicate with this made in china women. At that point I took the doll away from him. This created a good deal of stress that leg.

So in my opinion please don't bring rubber or plastic women with you to work.

That's just unreasonable. Show me in the Operations Handbook where it says we can't make sweet love to blow up dolls in the cockpit. I bet you can't.

I'm not defending anyone. I simply said in the context of this thread calling out one person, who actually seems to be more safety conscious than the rest, is not rational.

Another regional pilot speaks his mind. I'm sure that your ops manual does not allow this type of activity. Thanks for your insight.

Some of you guys really need to remove that stick from your rectum. If you have such problems with multitasking that you're unable to listen to both the ATC radio and the talk radio station, then you probably lack the mental capacity to fly an airliner anyway.

Pleasure reading and listening to ADF radio is prohibited by our Operations Manual. It wouldn't surprise me if it were prohibited at AirTran as well.

Do you intend to engage in these activities during your probationary year because of your vast mental capacity?

Does anybody understand the term context??

So I'm sure while you're crewing your (non-regional) aircraft you don't talk while taxing and of course never below 10,000? And of course you never read anything except your ATIS, jeps, or ops manual while in flight.... You're my hero.

The CVR also cannot be used in discipline of flight crews or presented as evidence in enforcement proceedings. Under any circumstances.

This is a vey misleading statement. If the NTSB takes possession of the CVR as a result of an accident/incident investigation the above statement is true. Until that time it is the property of the company and they can use it for any purpose they want. The same is true for FDR data. I have seen both of them used to initiate disciplinary action against pilots - including termination -and I have seen both of them used by pilots to exonerate thmeslves of trumped up charges. Keep in mind the company you work for can do whatever they want with CVR recordings and FDR data. It is the FAA that is restricted from using it.

So as a Status Rep at Pinnacle, you didn't have the opportunity to represent someone who was caught violating the Ops Manual

Of course, on many occasions. However, I never had to represent someone for reading or doing something else to pass the time on the flight deck. Anyone that would care about such a thing is an even bigger tool than the average Pinnacle manager.

before you abandoned your pilot group during negotiations to take a job at a non ALPA carrier?

Ah, I was wondering how long it would take you or one of the other RJDC wankers to try that avenue of attack. Maybe you view it as a "noble" calling to become a regional lifer, but most of us went to the regionals as a stepping stone. While there, I worked my ass off to make it better for those that would come after me. I think most of the pilots that I represented would agree that I did a pretty decent job of that.

And by the way, I don't expect AirTran to be a non-ALPA carrier for many more years.

Ummm I like it when the shaker goes off though!!! OOOOOOOO........:)

That will put a smile on your face :)

Re: Where do you draw the "enterainment" line

A former ALPA rep referring to some of his recent constituents as "lifers" in the pejorative sense while admiting he was just making that perfunctory low pass on the way to the big time. This is why ALPA has problems.

So, you still have some resumes out or are you going to be a lifer at AirTran?

And by the way, I don't expect AirTran to be a non-ALPA carrier for many more years.

They seem to be doing alright without ALPA. Why would they give up their sovranty - because you've arrived?

Are you planning to change you're moniker of ALPA's president to something other than "Darth" Prater for that recruiting drive?

Do you expect ALPA reps at the regionals to all be lifers? Do you think that they're the only ones that can properly represent regional pilots? I'm just curious.

Lifer. I'm happy here.

Sovranty? Did hookd on foniks werk for yu? Independent unions simply can't provide the same services and support that ALPA can. Our guys do their best, but they've got one hand tied behind their back compared to ALPA.

Not planning on any recruiting drive, but no, it's Darth Prater until he recognizes that the majority rules. Prater is the worst thing that's happened to ALPA in many years. But he's only one man, and the organization itself is still far superior to anything else out there.

Re: Where do you draw the "entertainment" line

That would be nice. Someone totally vested in the company is a big plus. I don't want someone like you making decisions on the direction my MEC takes if you're trying to leave at the first opportunity. It makes me feel better if the representative making the call has to live with the consequences. Nevermind your stunning assertion that following the Ops Manual is tantamount to having a stick up your butt.

You gave your insincerity away when you brand a segment of your former constituents as "lifers." It's a pejorative term used by big airplane pilots to set apart other union members as something "less than."

I have a great deal of respect for those who volunteer their time as a union representative.

On the other hand, I don't have any respect for those who are just checking another "leadership" box they can talk about at the interview: ie "As a status rep., I worked with management to resolve several disputes between the union and the company blah, blah, blah."

Comair had a guy running for status rep. He was elected but I'm not sure he served even one day. He left for the "greener pastures." So at the same time he was encouraging pilots to vote for him, he must have been sending out resumes, filling out applications and interviewing. This guy checked "willing to serve" but he obviously didn't mean it so Comair pilots had to go through the same election process all over again.

As long as individuals on the MEC believe Pinnacle is not a career airline and are working as hard as they can to move on, Pinnacle is doomed to never become a career airline.

We fixed that problem at Comair until we were dragged into bankruptcy recently. But we'll do it again.

Sovranty? Did hookd on foniks werk for yu?

So far in my limited experience with ALPA the senior people are the disconnected ones. They only work for the top 10 percent of the list. Then they are shocked when they open a door that will only benefit a few senior folks and the company walks all the way through that door and screws them with it. (See prefbid and vacation slide)
I would much rather have reps that are at work and living with the same QAL and operational issues that I am then a senior lifer that only works 10 days a month.
Also PCL 128 did more work for ALPA and the industry than most senior lifers put together.

Perhaps you missed it, but I just referred to myself in my last past as an AirTran "lifer." It's only a pejorative if you perceive it that way. I guess you're just insecure about your own decision to remain at the regionals.

I have a great deal of respect for those who volunteer their time as a union representative.

No you don't. The only people you respect are your fellow RJDC drones that aim to destroy the Association.

Umm, yeah, mentioning that you were a status rep during an interview probably isn't the best idea. Management pilots that do interviews usually don't like union guys.

But, I do agree with you that I can't stand reps that get into union work for the wrong reasons. Those that just want a fancy title or some union buy don't get any respect from me. I'm not one of those guys.

As long as individuals on the MEC believe Pinnacle is not a career airline and are working as hard as they can to move on, Pinnacle is doomed to never become a career airline.

Pinnacle can become a career airline as long as pilots step up to the plate and do the work of the Association. It doesn't matter if they do it for 30 years or 4 years like I did. You don't need the "lifers" to be doing the work to make progress.

Grimper, thanks for the kind words.

Wow I din't realize you knew how important a union was to an airlines success... Bravo my man...

My bad. We have a union contract that expressly prohibits such use of the CVR and FDR. I just assumed everybody did. Guess you don't. Sorry. ;)

Umm, reality check PCL.

Airtrash is a regional airline that flies 717s. We at ASA see it every day, and I know many, many pilots that have left ASA to go there. They all say the same thing: "Ok job, same BS, just bigger airplanes and a little more money".

Did you flame the Delta interview or something? Why an Airtran lifer?

Oh, by the way, loved the comments about how Airtran will be ALPA soon. I'm sure you'll be a big part of that as a former ALPA BOD member. I bet you glossed over that part of your history in your interview. Tell you what. I have a friend in management over there who briefly worked for Eastern. I'll pass your name along to him, and let him know how gung-ho you are to get a union on the property. *smooches*

What Delta interview? Haven't received an offer yet, and I'm no longer updating my application.

First of all, there's already a union on property (NPA). But thanks for the "threat."

Threat? No threat. You're the one foolish enough to run your mouth on a public message board while you're still on probation. It's not that hard to figure our who you are. They probably already know.

"John," unlike you, I've never really tried to hide my identity on this site. As for "running my mouth," I don't think that making a simple prediction about whether the NPA will eventually merge with ALPA is really that bold. But again, whatever you say.
