hi
I am getting flight time in a turboprop.
I wonder if i absolutely need jet time to move on to bigger and faster.
i am thinking about Emirates, cathay pacific, spirit airlines, fedex,etc...
thanks

I worked with a guy who went to FedEx w/o any jet time, so it is possible, but I'm sure they're lookin for PIC, what kind of conditions/leadership experience you have and a much higher TT...

Last time I checked a turboprop was a jet. It's jet time, build PIC.

With al du respect, you are gonna have to enlight me about this. turboprop time is jet time?

Our Ideal Applicant Profile:

To be considered for this role you MUST:

  • Be the holder of at least a valid JAA compliant ‘frozen’ ATPL, or a CPL compliant with the requirements of ICAO annex 1 and with evidence of passing the ATPL theory exams, or an FAA ATP with a type rating equivalent to Gulf Air types.
  • Have a current class 1 medical certificate.
  • Have more than 1500 hours flight time of which 500 must be on multi crew, jet or heavy turbo prop aircraft of MAUW greater than 15,000kgs/33,000lbs
  • Have experience that is commensurate with age.

turboprop is the same as jet??! That's a new one on me... propeller vs jet engine... hmmm where's that box of crayons?

If SCOREBOARD really is a "SWA/FO" (which I kinda doubt), then there's you proof that what gets you hired is not WHAT you know...but who you know.

Have a nice day.

Technically, he's not wrong.... You can't say:

propeller vs jet engine
because that's a different comparison. A propeller is not an engine type (perhaps you meant piston vs jet). Turboprop aircraft and turbojet aircraft both have jet engines; one operates an aircompressor while the other turns a propeller, but they are both operated by turbines.

I'm sure FedEx sees it differently, but TECHNICALLY he's not wrong.

Disclaimer: I have '0' turbine time, closest encounter with jet engines came as a mechanical engineering student working on jet engine design projects.

If you're asked why you logged turboprop time as jet, answer a turboprop is a very high bypass unducted fan.

both are turbine time, but some like swa want turbojet time

If you really want to get technical, turbojet and turbofan are different too... If it were me I would focus on just getting "flight time" in general, lets not put the carriage before the horse.

The FAA verbiage for second-in-command, type ratings, etc. uses the term "turbojet." When someone asks you to list your turbojet time, they don't mean straight-pipe lear 25 time.

What's important is to account for your time in the manner that your potential employer wants to see. So if they ask for Multi-Engine-Turbine-PIC, then include T-Prop, if they want Jet, then give them only jet time.

Hey Saviboy,

Looks like you answered your own question (original thread topic) with your last post. I've noticed you start a lot of threads with stupid or controversial questions. You must enjoy watching people agrue back and forth with the threads you start.

Get a life and stop asking these stupid questions everyone knows the answers to.

whats so special about my question?
a lot of companies list turbine time as one of their requirements but i am sure you know that between whats listed and what the companies really require there can be a big difference.
My life is pretty nice as it is now and you seem to be the only one to have a problem with my question so far.
I am just pretty new to the industry and I am trying to educate myself.
Maybe you should get a new life ..or get laid.
bye

Managed log over 3000 PIC turboprop. Heavy tprop according to Cathays application (45,000 lbs). No one was knocking at my door. Most tprop guys I know are in the same boat.
I hit the pavement, and I did get hired into a fairly large jet however. I guess its not that bad.

Whatever Saviboy,

That's just what you are a boy on your daddy's computer.
With threads suchs as:

"Which is easier to fly Metro or Saab 340?"
"Low time female pilot, how can I help?"
&
"Where can I go after I fly a turboprop?"

I would have to say those are some stupid questions.

Your next thread should be: "What other stupid question can I (Saviboy) ask?"

Moron!
