I know this will be pure speculation. When do you think DAL, AMR, and UAL will have everyone recalled? 2 yrs? 5 yrs? 10 yrs? Will wages return back to Pre 911 levels? Thanks.

The industry is in the tank!

In the process. Barring BK (not likely) or another 9/11 scenario, every furloughee will be back on the property by summer 2006
A very long while. They have folks from TWA and AMR on the street with no likely recall forseen for quite some tim
They recalled a few, but are still in BK with no sign of a plan to exit!

10 years most likely

Will wages return back to Pre 911 levels? Thanks
nope! IF anything, they will probably continue to decrease due to the fact there are so many pilots out there willing to do it for less!

of course this is all worth absolutely nothing and my .02 worth

AA will be announcing more furloughs in the next couple of months with a possibility of another fleet type being parked. AA will not be recalling probably for the next two years or so plus with about 3500 on the street the next downturn will happen before everyone is recalled.

And what fleet type would that be?

Not everyone will be recalled

Some will reach age 60 and not be eligible; many will take jobs and will not want to give up seniority at their new job. Some contracts have limits on recall. USAirways and AA will most likely never recall all of there lay off pilots. However, it is a good guess that that majors will be hiring by 2006, NWA and CAL are likely to have recalled everyone by that time. This all leads into the hiring boom of 2007, starting in June.

It should'nt be, "when will they hire again" and it should be when, "will they layoff again." If you think the past 3 years were bad. Then HOLD ON it's only going to get worse. I dont think AMR will hire in the next 10 years. Delta? United? Usair???

They'll probably park the 'bus and shrink to around 7000-8000 pilots.

Just my worthless .02 cents.
We only have 34 A-300s. Only would account for 3-400 pilots. Much of that flying is profitable, so it would have to be absorded by another fleet which would mitigate some of the job loss.

From what I've heard, the penalties to retire the bus ahead of schedule are pretty significant.

my buddy at dal was just recalled. he was furloughed from the 767 @ slc and last week was recalled in the md 88 @atl.

I'm hoping UAL and US Airways survive 2005 and 2006! Recalls a bonus. Can anyone really predict the near future of the industry? Let's hope for the best.
