That's all any Legacy pilot is. That's the downside to this airplane. Employers think (or rather, *KNOW*) they can hire 100 ERJ drivers to replace you if you quit.

I made about $47K at the Regionals. Making $53K-56K and having 8 days off in a row every time you come home (and more even many times) is a dream compared to flying ERJs six legs a day all day every day... It's actually sad, but I'm not exactly overworked and my boss NEVER bothers me about anything. In terms of QOL it's great. Salary...not so great, but I'm competing against every ERJ driver in the world so I'm at a major disadvantage (and my boss knows it).

If this were a Falcon, G-IV, Citation X or any other non-airline jet I bet the salary would be double. But then again, I don't know what Net Jets and Options guys make on similar equipment so that could deflate stuff.

Not trying to bust your nuts but thats just another reason why your aircraft is a WSCOD!!!!! It will always be thought of as an ERJ because thats what it really is and there are thousands of guys willing to do it for the pay you are getting.
You're right about the Falcon, Gulfstream, and GLEX jobs, they do pay much better but you'll never realize it until you shed the WSCOD and move on to the next type rating even if you start off in the right seat for a while.
And do yourself a favor and stop referencing the Frac's payscales, even with NJA's new contract and CS supposedly matching it, they are all still way below what a decent corp. job should pay for heavy jet.

Also LD, you (or your boss) seem to have pegged your worth at 55K and you simply accept that. Its your business but 53K/yr as a PIC on a large corp aircraft is downright out of the loop. You may have lots of days off, but you might as well have another job on those days at that wage. wheres the QOL at 53K?

Has your boss actually TOLD you he could replace you with any dork RJ pilot out there today? or have you just assumed that...I guess just ANY of them could do your job as well as you? If I was you I would think -- NO.

an airplane is an airplane, any company could shed their 150K+ Gulfsteam pilots and replace them with 75K willing pilots from one of the hundreds of resumes they get each year --- but they dont.

It just sounds like you have talked yourself out of any more worth than a regional pilot (+ maybe 10%). My far fetched guess is that your boss has wondered why, but is pretty darn happy you work so cheap. Nobody just "gives" people large pay raises.

You're not a regional pilot or a fractional pilot, why compare yourself to the two? that crowd feels rich and lofty (rising ship thing) making 60% the salary they should for the equipment...

Don't worry guys, I know you aren't busting my nuts and I totally agree with what you are saying.

However, remember my background. I sorta' have a reputation (unfair or otherwise--I won't debate that point--but one all the same) to shed before I can shed this type for another one. I'm not exactly getting my doors blown off with offers to go elsewhere.

In fact it's the one type thing that seems to cause problems. Nobody wants to hire a guy to drive a Falcon or G-IV unless he already has a type. At least that seems to be the case.

Now if someone can find me a job in Texas hey...I'm there baby.



In the meantime I am getting decent annual raises and I'll be at $75K shortly. Not the greatest but I don't fly that much so perhaps I have finally reached "The Fourth Phase of Aviation." Though yes I have heard it said that if one doesn't like it here they are free to leave. There are so many people in line to replace us that I would never consider that an idle threat. The flip side is that loyalty is returned. Nobody ever gets "released" or "fired" even though it seems we are overstaffed so that's something. The boss doesn't get bent out of shape over stupid stuff either unlike the people I worked for before. That in and of itself is worth a lot to me... But I need a raise...BADLY.

You know there's never as good a time to be looking for a new job, than when you have a job.

It might be beneficial to step back. Back in 1998, I was a Lear Capt/Check Airman, and I left that job to take a King Air 200 job. The part 91 King Air paid $75,000, the 135 Lear job was paying $45,000. Taking the King Air job ended up being a great career move the. Obliviously, I had reservations of going from a jet to a turbo prop at that point in my career. However, if I didn't take the King Air job I would have never met the people I work for now.

Look, before anyone flames me for being an a$$ about this, let it be known that I got hosed in the raise dept. this year too. What my boss offered was nothing short of an outright insult and soon enough he will see how much more expensive it'll be hire, train, and retain the next fool(s). Instead of keeping us (me and the other guy) happy with a nice 6-10% bump he'll soon be realizing what ought to amount to about a $50k hit in training and new hire costs per pilot plus he's gonna miss some trips without a crew.
Now that being said, getting hosed on the raise is one thing but you guys who state that you're $30k or 30% below industry avg should be shot. Where was your brain parked during the interview?? If you were so dumb (yes dumb) to take a job that paid so poorly then you don't deserve a raise!!!! Do you really think that any employer who can get you so cheap to begin with is ever going to take care of you in the future.
Do the entire profession a favor, pull your head out of your a$$ and don't accept below avg wages when offered the job. Go work at Home Depot for a few months and keep interviewing for a decent job.

I myself was told I would be industry standard after I got out of training. Yes, that was stated, so to Hell with the "where was your head in the interview" remarks. Apparently we all had no idea the Chief Pilot was spineless when it came to fighting for his team. Other pilots have been told the same thing as well. We are dealing with it, and all looking elsewhere.

Don't bitch about it, change it, and if that means moving on then so be it. These aren't ALPA jobs, there's no seniority to protect. Go out and find the next better gig. This is the only profession I know of where having multiple employers is not necessarily a bad thing. EVERYONE in this business (Corp) knows how many crappy jobs are out there and as long as you can explain why you left then most won't hold it against you.

And BTW, I am most certainly the ugliest chik you've ever seen in your life. That is unless you've seen G200 out on a Saturday night "all dressed up in the East Village" with the other Queens. imp:
