I use one called made by AnalogX, its called pow. It is free, and will only automatically dissappear only a few selected, but you can tell it what you want it to close. It reads the header bar at the top of the browser window.
For example, if i told it I wanted it to close anything that says Flightinfo.com Hangar, it would close that as soon as it opened. And it would forever close it.
I've had a lot of luck with Popup Killer, but it seems to be no longer available for download. The company that developed PUK recommends this other program:
We Recommend Another Ad Filter by Meaya Software
It is very easy to use and able to kill 100% pop-up ads.
Free download is available. Try it today!
Virtually all of the free stuff is crap. That's why it's free. For around $20 you can get something that actually does what it's supposed to do without contunuous input or tweaking.
By AnalogX, the people's programmer. All his suff is free and highly recommended by "The Screensavers" on TechTV. It needs minor training now and then, but once it has a good popup database to draw from, it's great! Yeah, you can pay for some that might work better, but for free, this one is pretty good.
AnalogX has other great freeware, too. An atomic clock time sync for your computer, a speedometer for your network connection, and lots more.
If AOL uses IE or Netscape, it should work.
I would avoid AOL at all costs. It is like a virus, a disease, on your computer. Once it's on, only way to get rid of it is a FULL Format.
AOL, would never put that garbage/spyware on my system.
Just my two cent's. The junk, the selling of your email address, the misc. bloatware software that is put on the system with their cds, blah! Use to work for an ISP, and our #1 problem or complaint was "I installed AOL software, now I can't get it off, and I can't connect with your ISP."
