I shot my resume over to skyway about a month or so ago when i had a little over 1300 hours and then did a follow up call. The woman i spoke with told me that i need 1500/100ME.From what it looks like, they are hiring guys with way less then that. Can anyone please explain that one? I am less then 100 hours from 1500,so once i get that,i guess ill see what happens next.It sucks because im a native of Milwaukee and have lived there most of my life and i feel like i keep getting the runaround. Im currently flying overseas so maybe thats why, because one of the questions that the lady asked me was if i was in Milwaukee.Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

A good majority of the regionals have the flexibility to hire many applicants with lower flight times regardless of the posted minimums should they choose to do so. Present day this practice still occurs but not nearly as much as pre-911 when they were hiring many more versus present day. They can be more "picky" and more "selective" and I think that is the problem that you are running into. If you know any people within the company then I would suggest having them walk your resume in with a LOR attached to it to the appropriate people and this can and usually does make a difference. I am sure the Skyway guys can touch on this in more ways than I could since this will vary from company to company.

Luck also has a lot to do with getting the interview, sometimes that part of the process in even more difficult than getting the actual job.

good luck

Maybe lower time pilots are getting hired because they are local (MKE) pilots. Skyway does place a premium on pilots who already live in the greater SE WI area (including northern IL).

Maybe your living on an island far removed from MKE is having a direct bearing on the situation. I honestly don't know why HR isn't interested.

Peace

What you need is an uncle/dad/brother that will get you the job. If you don't have that then you can always purchase a job. If you have issues with that then be preparied to wait a long time because you will get hired AFTER all the guys who have an unlce chief pilot and AFTER the guys willing to fork out cash for the job. That is the system. Being a good pilot won't help. Having a good attitude won't help. Excellent problem solving skills and a quality education won't add up to much either. Thats why people with fewer hours are being hired.

Geez, a little bitter??

Don't be angry because people get jobs because of who they know or who they are related to. Because it has been going on for longer than any of us have been in Aviation. Let me ask you, if you met someone who would hook you up with the job at Skyway with lower mins, no PFT/PFJ crap....would you take it?? I'm darn sure you would. Don't bitter towards others because you want the job they have.

OK My Good Skyway Enterprises friend now that you work for Tom Loumankin ........is it fair to say that in 1000 time you will be asking your dad at UPS to get you in the next DC8 or B757 Class?

Just wanting to know exactly where youre going with this?;)

Very well said T-Gates.....

The funny thing is you see this type of attitude all the time when someone is unable to obtain the job "they want" at the time "they want it" ...

Ummm, yeah, I'm really bitter I can't work for all the peanuts I can stuff in my cheeks at a regional airline. The system is what it is. It doesn’t make me mad. I have no anger issues. I was just providing an answer as to why others were getting in sooner. If I wanted a job at a regional airline that bad I’d just take out a loan. Jiminy cricket fellows! Calm down.

Running the risk of sounding bitter (I'm not) but it seems what Cynic is saying is nothing but the truth. It does seem that way, and too all of those out there who like to look via a smokescreen won't see it. You either need a) loads of cash b) a very good contact. If not then wait till all those people are taken care of. Be paitent and wait your turn. I know I am :)

T-Gates...well said, well said.

Taz...why wouldn't a guy with 1,000 hours be OK to go to the right seat of airline equipment ? The military hires people who don't know that the pointy end goes in the front, gives them 300+/- hours and puts THEM in the right seat of all kinds of big airplanes. Their training is good, but training alone doesn't make the pilot; EXPERIENCE + training= pilot. And, one cannot get experience in anyone's training program. There's only one way and that involves getting in the airplane with the more experienced people and entering the real world.

Besides, these training programs are "self-filtering"; those who can't hack it fall by the wayside at some point in the process be it sim/IOE, etc.

WTF??

Okay, you must know me somehow....

Anyway, my dad needs to retire first anyway, probaly still 5 years away. UPS has a strict Nepotisim policy. Mabye someday I'll get some help, but I'll have to wait and see. Plus, he's not a pilot, so I'm not too sure how much he can help! UPS is a biiiiig company.

My point was directed towards everyone. People make contacts in thier aviation career that get them jobs, yeah I've been jealous of friends that got better jobs because of who they knew. But thats thier thing. And like a said, a truth of the industry.

Check your PM's....

Hey Migio,

Here's your answer. With this whole Delta thing looming, I think they're starting to look for people that have ATP mins when they get hired. It would make the training process much smoother. I think they want to type people in initial so the upgrade takes far less time. My beef with my company is that they will still hire some with less than 1500TT. They post 700/50 multi, but really want 1500. It should be one or the other. It sucks for those that want to work here, and get no reply at 1000, or 1200 hrs.

One thing that might help, I think I used to work with you over at FedEx Ground. Blue Belt? If I have the right person, get a hold of me, I'll walk that thing in and explain what you want to do. I think they don't want to try to get you to the interview from the sounds of it. Being where you are is hard to get to MKE.

To all else who love to flame, try to save it for the crazy non-specific dumb questions that are often asked elsewhere.

T-Gates... that's gotta' be one of the funniest photos (on your avatar) I've ever seen.

Where can I get a larger version of that pic? The Shorts/Winnebago thing has me boxed-up in laughter!!!

skyway

Just want to thank all you guys for all your imput.Propsync, how are ya!!yeah,i used to work with you at FedEx Ground on the blue belt. Its good to hear from you,i looked all over for your email but i think i left it at home. Hows the wx in MKE?When i talked to Stephanie last month, she said that you are still at skyway. Is Rick or Paul still there? For the gentleman that is asking about island hopping,i am flying between the Northern Mariana Islands, way the heck out in the western pacific. The airline that i fly for flies to Guam,Rota,Tinian, and Saipan.I mostly fly back and forth between here(Saipan)and the island of Tinian, which is a 15 minute flight.I fly u.s. mail to guam once a week.Saipan and Guam are about 110 miles from each other. We operate a shorts SD3-60 turboprop(30 seats,Part 121) and 4 cherokee sixes as well as 1 C172.Its a great place to work for if your in a hurry to rack up flight time fast.We are very short on pilots right now and all the pilots are flying 90-120 hours a month. Its Part 135 but VFR only for the cherokee guys.If you have 500 hours,i would look into it if you want to live somewhere warm for a while and hook up with asian women(chinese, japanese, filipinas,Thai chicks, and some koreans)The CNMI(Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands)is just a few hours south of Tokyo,Japan,3 or so more hours east of China and The Phillipines, and 3-4 hours north of Australia. The beaches here are pretty nice, especially in Tinian and Rota and the snorkeling is great. There is also a lot of windsurfing, kite surfing, and once again,a lot of women, there are like 5 chicks for every guy here if not more. There are lots of full nudy bars too with super hot filipina chicks. Northwest and Continental(Air Mike, which is short for Continental Micronesia)fly in and out of Saipan daily,Continental is flying 737-800's and Northwest is operating the 747-200's and 757-200's.JAL (Japan Airlines),Asiana, also operate over here with 747's and 767's.There is one more place i forgot to mention and that is Northwest Airlink, dba Pacific Island Aviation, which flies 3 Shorts SD3-60's between the nearby islands.Saipan is about a 10-12 hour flight from the states and approximately 6 hours west of Hawaii. Some like to refer to Saipan as the poor mans Hawaii.Same weather as Hawaii, but alot smaller, and some things are harder to come by.This place is pretty impressive though for being such a small island.I believe the island is about 20 miles long from North to South, and im guessing 5-7 miles wide.We have movie theatres and just about everything else here, fast food, clubs, lots of hotels,a public library which has internet, car dealerships, and so on.Its a fun place but only for some people.Ive been out here for almost 9 months now.Oh,and for those of you who like gambling, the island of Tinian has a Las Vegas style Casino called "Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino" which is really awesome, nuff said.
Later guys,thanks

God forbid anybody get ahead in this world because they started talking to people and made good contacts that helped them out down the road. What right do they have to take jobs away from people too shy or lazy to do the same?

Some of you people need to N-E-T-W-O-R-K. In business (not just aviation), its never what you know, but always who you know. Talk to the bizjet drivers that fly into your airport, go BS with the corporate operators near you, find out where overnighting pilots' hotel is and go drinking with them. Do something, but don't just sit back and complain about people who have a little initiative...

Okay boiler, how 'bout hair color
and figure? Is that okay? Are
those acceptable screening
criteria?

Hahaha!!!

FLAMEBAIT!!! I'm going to crawl
back into my bunker now!

P.S. I was going to say something
about starting as a GSA, but you
just picked the wrong airline. At
least you have a good chance now
to start over!

I'm just messin with ya...
I miss it there, especially now that
the pants are getting shorter and
tighter for spring!

INCOMING!!!

I think you haven't paid the dues yet, so just keep banging those chicks until you learn what others had to go through to get to the right seat.

For real: Why on Earth would you want to leave that place? you're not into asian? :D ...kidding... good luck!

A far cry from the WI life dude used to live! After hearing from Migio, I was checking out Marianas at http://www.mymarianas.com/html/display.cfm?sid=1009 and I feel very bad that he's there and I'm not! I can only imagine the bright crispy red sunburn I'd have from being in a tropical paradise!

Minimum flight time for qualification is a bogus term. United used to advertise that 350 hours was all you needed to a real life pilot. How many men do y'all know that got hired in the nineties with less than 3500 hours? Hiring Minimums......more like a guidleline only to be used when an airline wants to put on a uniform facade.
