What's the deal w/ ethanol in gas???

I was just curious if there were any benefits or drawbacks of using the gas that "May contain up to 10% ethanol" in your car.

I have a 2000 Ford Mustang if that makes a difference.

Check your owners manual. It will list if ethanol has a detrimental effect on your vehicle.

It probably won't hurt a 2000 vehicle but I'd check your owner's manual to be 100% certain. There were issues in the past about it being harmful to rubber o-rings in the fuel injection system but that was in early fuel injected cars. Read more about ethanol here.

You live near/in a large city, most likely, it's there - with no telling what else. As I understand it, there are some 20+ blends used across the country. Thank the midwest corn lobby and the enviros. Alcohol has less energy/gal. Reduces your mileage. the greens don't account for this with their selfish conspiracy to rid us of our freedom to buy/use safer SUVs.

I have a 2000 Mustang and have no choice but to use that type of gas. I have had no problems at all.

What's the Deal with ethanol in gas...

Try this link to a news story. Seems there has been a shift from using MBTE or whatever, as a gas additive to reduce emissions, to using ethenol...and there is a controversy, so says them...

I've heard that one of the properties of ethanol was that it absorbed moisture from the gasoline during the winter so that you wouldn't have water bubbles in your gas. But that during the hot summer months when it is humid, the ethanol absorbed too much water and it ended up coming out of solution anyway, forming two layers of fluid in your tanks. This water in your tank would then lead to problems in performance etc...

Anyone else hear something similar to this??? True???
